swing arm rubbing ?

D

deano

hey guys sorry loads of Qs for you today lol

while looking for an rsv i have noticed quit a few have marks on the swing arm were the exahust rubs!!! been told this is common is that true or is this a sign of a crashed bike with a bent frame or swingarm ect ??

main reason i am asking is i have seen what looks like a lovely 2001rsv but has marks on the swing arm and the guy told his insurance company and due to the repair costs being 800 for a new swing arm they put a cat d on the bike !!!

want to see if its worth staying well clear or diving in for hopefully a right old bargain ??

if it has scuffs from riders boots and no dents it will be OK more than likely, if it has anything other than scuffs from riders boots it is accident damage

said to be scuff marks from the exhausts ??

The exhaust may have touched the swingarm when someone was fitting it if they were careless, if it has more than scuffs or scratches it has been down the road, the swingarm is the first thing to get damaged by the exhaust in a spill:biggrin

if the cans are fitted incorrectly they could catch the swing arm at full suspension travel ie when givin it some or with pilllion . put some weight on the rear of bike and see if the can is catching the arm ...........

When i was looking the majority of bikes had a mark on the swingarm...if the bikes has toppled over this will make quite a mark on the swingarm as it will take the brunt of the impact ...

The can probably hasn't been spaced or fitted properly, if the swing arm isn't dented then the off was probably a minor one, as mines got a massive hole in mine and its still fine.

My silencer runs close to swingarm, I have to twist linkpipe and pull can towards me when I tighten the mounting bolt on hanger
then I hold a steel ruler flat on the swingarm and make sure it clears silencer so it won't catch with suspension travel.

I think my link pipe may be slightly bent though as it came off a track bike and silencer and pipe have signs of damage.

well the guy with the cat d bike got back to me he wants min 2100 for it !!!!

old him i can get one without a cat d for that so told him to get back to me when he lowers his price...

keep looking !!!

I got this problem on the Left hand side and dont know the best way of sorting it.

Once the exhaust link pipe is connect and held in place with the springs its natural position sits different to the other side.

The only thing i can see that looks different are the position of the spring Hooks, looks like they have been welded a few degrees different.

God knows :dunno
