pretty sure the one you are talking about are quite small and wont cover a ding in the swingarm

ive got the full length ones on mine and i think they look great, but then again i would!!, if youve got any dings they cover the lot. i'll try and put some pics on

I had the smaller type fitted to mine, and when the car smacked into my end can, he bashed the end can up real bad, and according to the insurance assessor, the swinging arm protector stopped the damage tothe arm itself, so i can highly recommend them for this, although i remember that when i fiited them, i used a mastic to fill out the slight space behind guard and arm as there was some space behind it.

Before the smash, they also stopped my size 10's heel marking the arm where i used to ride with my toes on my pegs and my heel towards to the rear of the bike where it would brush against the arm.
