Suspension Setup

I have an Ohlins rear shock on the RSVR but before I got the bike it was fitted with a K-Tech 105 Weight Spring. I think its abit heavy for me as I am only about 12 stone. It feels ok when I have the lady freind on the back but on my own its too stiff. That and I think the front now suffers as the back is too hard. The front dives too much and is not stable round corners.

I have only been out on the bike a few times and its always just been a get on a ride thing. Checked the tyre pressures and put fuel in. To be honest I haven't checked what the settings are.

Does anyone else have a different spring on the back and what is the recommended set up? I had a look on a few bike magazine sites and there were some guides but they only went up to 2004 Factory and I have a 2006 RSVR with the ohlins shock. Is the 2006 Front forks and rear shock different so shouldn't take any notice of the bike mag guide?

Thanks,
Mark

mark ,i,ve always set mine up to be hard as i am 15 stone . when i took mine the other day to southern cross for a mot don(the guru) and andy was laughing at my setup saying it was ***** for me and was all wrong ,to be honest i loved it and have done 20,000 the way it is never giving me a problem. they dropped the front end down one ring and raised the back by 8mm which is a lot and fettled with the rest the sag was to much aswell they sorted it all out for £10(which is what they charged on the aprilia day when i didn't have time that day and the queue was about 10 bikes long so true to there word that is what they charged). my god what a bargain it is a different bike trust me i rode home in the rain with rsvr47 and could not believe the difference i know it doesn't help your question but i would take it to someone who deals with setups honest i do everything myself as i am a mechanic but they are awsome there..... i havn't got your answer but that is what i would do....:thumbup

mate, get the bike upright and push hard down just behind the filler cap, that will let you know how the front and back works(not works together.).
Its deffo worth spending 10-40 quid on a suspension set up by an expert-made all the diff to mine.

95 spring is more likely what you need Mark, that must have been changed for a fat 15 stone bloke, can you find out from previous owner what has been done to forks and shock?

Don used to help me set up my race bike and the 04 RSV Factory when we raced for RiOT. Its just 300 miles to go and see him thats all. LOL.

I set up the race bikes myself but its very different from road riding and without looking at what I have got with the RSVR I was just trying to get someone to reccomend a ball park figure to start with.

I guess I will just have to go to the garage and see what it is at the min and play from there.

The bike came from Southern Cross and the forks are standard and the rear shock just has the different spring on. What is the standard spring rate??

like the quote badger(fat 15 stone) hope you are as quick off the bike as you think you are on it!:lolsee you at rockingham:kicknuts

Mark - I feel a trade coming on here. You need a 95, I need a 105.

I obviously fall into the 'fat bast' 15 stone plus group:eek:. Took my bike into SC last week and Don tells me I need a 105 spring for my Ohlins and I presently have a standard 95 fitted......

Just out of interest, is your bike Mick's old one? (Lateshift)

LOL.

Yeah its Micks old bike. You calling him a 15 stone Fat ******* then?

I know Mick from the Essexbikers forum and the few track days I come down and do with them. I know Don from Racing with RiOT Racing (renegade exhausts) in 2004 and 2005. I think I have the standard spring in a bo in the garage.

I have about 10 Springs for the CBR but I dont know if they are the same or not..

Kinda thought it might be his bike Mark, that would be a good buy:thumbup

Seems to be a lot of 15 stoners ride Mille's, i am sure they are not fat at all, big boned maybe, but certainly not fat:devious

Get a correct springrate first, that is the key to the suspension magic. I tried to get the stock 95 to work but no way........I'm also a fat ******* that's why I did the s/ch mod...:thumbup

I currently have a 105 at the rear and the correct, don't remember the weightnumber, in the front. My weight with gear is 115kg......:roll

Big boned - They were the words I was looking for.....:thumbup

At 6'4" and 17 stone I am a fat *******; the point is though that the RSV has pretty good ergos for "bigger" riders. My mate who has one as a track bike is a tiddler (5' 4" and about 9st and less than half my effing age as well!) and he struggles with reach a bit. for me my knees go nicely into the tank, and that is very unusual. Other sports bikes (did I say I hate sports bikes?) just don't work, and a ride on his Mille and a couple of others is enough to convince me I WANT ONE... The piggy bank is being filled as we speak.
