Hello mate if you can wait until July 12th and make it over to the National Aprilia Day at yaxley Southern cross will be there doing suspension set-up and they normally charge a tenner

that sounds good would that be static and rider set up.

does it get busy and a long waiting list.

Waiting time not that bad just a case of turn up and see when i went last year there was no more than 5 bikes in the queue and they took about 30 mins to get through it is a static set up and they do it well

ok cheers will stick that 1 in my diary then might be worth a visit even if i get it done sooner.

would like to sort it before i go the ring in june.

if you want it done sooner then take it to Forza Italia at silverstone they will do suspension set up but i don't know how much they charge but the pother thing you could do is go for a ride down to southern cross at kilburn north london heres the website take a look there only 10 mins from the end of the M1

Alternatively you could do it yourself. It's quite easy once you get your head around what you're trying to achieve. I did mine earlier this year and it was the first time I've fiddled with suspension, certainly wouldn't pay someone to do it now. Here's the link to the thread about my experience - Click Here

hi dave it does seem fairly straight forward but there is 3 things i'm not happy with and i'm not sure that the sag would cure them.

1, on bumpy roads i feel like i'm going to be chucked off the bike.

2, slow tight corners the front feels like its going to tuck. no matter how hard i try to counter steer the bars seem to turn in to far.

3, under braking for a split second when you think you've seen somthing and brake then release it dives very fast but is fine in normal conditions.

all 3 could be down to my riding but never had them on my k2 gixxer.

just need to sort the bike or my head so i can relax more on the bike.

Start off by setting the rider sag. You'll need a mate to measure while you sit on the bike in your leathers etc. You're aiming for rear sag of 30-35mm and front sag of 35-48mm. Set the shock/fork compression/rebound/preload to the standard settings and take the bike for a spin. It could well be that a previous owner has altered the settings. With regard to your points above, 1 & 3 sound like your compression/rebound need adjusting but I'd start by putting everything back to standard settings. If you do alter anything after that write it down so that if it doesn't feel better you can go back to where you were. :thumbup

thanks for the info dave think i've got my head around it so will try and have a go at setting it over the next couple of days.

cheers

ok set the sag today the front was ok at 37mm but the rear was out by 8mm so 2 and a bit turns and it is now 31mm.

not road tested yet so not sure if it is better

That sounds similar to the adjustment I made on my rear. Made the bike drop into corners SOOOO much better. Don't forget to check that rebound/compression are set to standard then take it out and see how it feels. I even took the tools to adjust this while out once I was getting close to what I wanted.

been out today much better, can't believe that adjusting the rear can make such a big differance to the steering.
