Santa has been.......

New K-tech DDS shock sprung to suit.

Forks re-worked with heavier spring and K-Tech valve and piston kit. Seals oil etc replaced.

Should get them fitted tomorrow.

Hi Rizla, do you mind if I ask how much they charged for the fork rework?
I would like to get my Ducati forks softened up a little.
Cheers.

I will get you an exact breakdown when the wife isn't looking :lol

Including heavier springs, valve /piston kit, oil, seals and labour it was around £600.

The total bill for the shock and fork re-work was £1425, but I got a 10% discount on all parts as they hadn't done a Tuono V4 fork setup before and asked if they could use mine to take measurements etc in return for a discount.

Crack on boys was my answer :thumbup

christmas isnt for 2 months yet :)

review when your done, please?

Hi Mate,

I got it all fitted today and took the bike out for a pretty hard shakedown.

I rode familiar roads, which are tight and twisty with all kinds of elevation changes ( For the Jocks amongst us....A93 Balirgowrie to Braemar and Cairn o mount ).

The difference is that I was riding bends at the same speed that I would normally ride them and feel like I am riding fast as the bike gets a little twitchy, but with the new setup, the same bends at the same speeds felt slow. So smooth and stable, even hitting bumps at speed mid bend didn't unsettle the bike. I felt that I could have easily gone another 10-15 mph it was that smooth.

I am using the K-tech base settings provided at the moment and I have to say that I am very impressed.

I've always like the handling of the V4, always been quick to turn in and holds a line beautifully, but found it a little harsh at times.

Not any more.

sweet thanks for that, been thinking of doing an upgrade as my mate just slung his factory down the road, mainly cosmetic, however hes said i can nab his ohlins and replace them with my stock v4r forks and shock and pay him £500

so guess what im doing to night lol

I am shocked at how much easier the bike is to ride quickly mate.

Had it out for another couple of hundred miles today and It is amazing :thumbup

£500 that is an absolute bargain :thumbup

Before I removed the shock I read up on it and a lot of peeps were saying that the tail section, battery, undertray has to come off so that you can pull the shock straight up.
Well that's one way, but damn time consuming.

This is what I did.

When you are replacing the shock I jacked up the rear, took off right side rearset, loosened top and bottom bolts, had a friend hold the rear wheel and jiggle it up and down slightly so the I could pull the bolts out then lower the swingarm as far as you can and the shock will come out upwards with a slight rotation past where the rearset was.

When I was installing the K-tech shock I found it easier to disconnect the dog bone at the engine end and swing it down out of the way. That gave me a little more room and movement to wriggle the new shock into place.

i pushed the top bolt through first, then lined up the dogbone with the aid of my mate lifting the swingarm, refitted that bolt, then the bottom shock bolt.

Hope that helps :thumbup

Forks were a piece of piss, removed steering damper, front wheel and mudguard and that was it.

Don't forget the speed sensor on the lower right fork too.

sorry been out on a bender over the weekend lol so ive not had chance to take some pics, i did manage to get everything buttoned up and ready for a ride, i think "plush" is the word, i report back when ive givin it a thrashing!

Hi all,
been a while but am about to upgrade my shock as well. Was wondering if a shock suiting the RSV4 R APRC (2011) would be compatible with my 2011 Tuono APRC? I'm looking at Bitubo; if it's not compatible, i'll go for ohlins.
appreciate any views and feedback.
best and safe riding to all

Yes the RSV4 shock fits the Tuono v4.

The stock ohlins on the RSV4 factory is a popular upgrade on the Tuono.

Hi Rizla, thanks for the reply. I know for the oehlins, am trying to ascertain for other hock brands.
Do you reckon, the same analogy ("If it fits the RSVR, it will fit the Tuono") is true for other manufacturers (K-Tech / Bitubo / Penske etc...)?

Your KTech looks trick - have enquired with them but not received any reply yet....

My K-tech is an RSV4 unit :thumbup

If a unit fits the RSV4 it will fit the Tuono V4.

The chassis and swingarm are the same.

Give Martin a call at K-tech.

he will be able to sort you out.

They also took measurements from my forks while they had them in as they hadn't done a Tuono V4 front end before and had no data.
They now have everything they need.
