stuck top yoke nut

Hi everybody,
just joined the forum and im after a little advice. Ive got a 2000 mille, crackin bike but im too fat/old/short to reach the bars comfortably. im in the process of fitting raised bars but when i tried to undo the top yoke nut, the ring nuts under the yoke turned with it. anyway, once i got a c spanner on them game over, it will not budge, even with an extention bar and a three foot fork tube. any ideas? im thinking scaffold tube and just go for it but i need to check that im not missing something first. any suggestions greatly accepted.
cheers

p.s. 15/42 or 16/44 sprockets?

That doesn't sound good. I had the top yoke off the other night and I'm sure the nut threads on the inside of the stem, and the ring nuts thread on the outside. If it's spinning the ring nuts that must mean the stem is loose maybe? Can you tighten the right nuts first? That should move them down away from the top yoke and stop it pushing the top yoke into the nut.

if the 2 headbearing lock nuts are moving when you turn the top yoke nut then the stem must be moving which is not a good thing only way i could think of getting it off is to cut the top nut off then strip the whole lot and inspect it or get someone whos knows these thing to

oh bugger, i saw that the stem was moving but if ive got to chop bits off so be it. This leads me to ask where can i get another top nut if i chop this one off? and anybody out there got a yoke they want to part with if this ones fubar. cheers again

I can't remember what the bottom yoke looks like, but if you can see the stem through the bottom of the bottom yoke (after taking off the plastic cover between the forks) you could maybe try getting someone to weld the stem to the bottom yoke?

the prob is the stem is turning he says. would you fancy riding with a stem that is loose in the bottom yoke ,it could be welded after it is out if there isnt too much damage to the yoke and stem

thanks for the advice lads. ive done the two day penetrating oil stuff and heat and got the pinch nuts nice and tight. ive tried a two foot breaker bar with a three foot extention and twatted the top nut whilst giving it 15+ stone of white knuckled bastard (i was suprised how much bend you can get on a breaker bar!). it isnt moving. game over. ive managed to get a bottom yoke from the bay with top nut for a good price so its the grinder im afraid. theres no way i would trust that bottom yoke now the stem has turned in it anyway.
cheers
Lester
