Stopping carbon heelguards getting scratched?

Had to replace the carbon heelplates on my Mille this week, left hand one was seriously scratched. The heel of my Sidi boot had scratched it quite badly.

Now I've just fitted new ones yesterday and I've been out on the bike maybe 4 times since.

Already the heelplate on the left is beginning to show signs of scratching again.

They are high quality and deep laquered, but I can see these going the same way as the old ones.

Is there anything I can do to combat this?. I'm thinking as a last resort to maybe find some clear stick on plastic or something like that, but I don't know where to look to buy it from.

Fella, please don't take this the wrong way,we all keep our bikes clean, but they have got to be riden & enjoyed,me that would'nt bother me,sorry fella..:thumbup

Hi Ecosse,

Thought you were gonna say that you had Alpinestars SMX plus's. The early ones (like mine) have metal plates on the inside and scratch anything they get near to pieces. I've covered the plates on my boots with araldite to try to stop it. Are your sidi's the same?

Sidi Vertebraes here.

Interesting. I was trying to think of something to put on the heelguards to stop the scratching but never gave a thought to trying to do something to the boots to eliminate the scratching problem.

No offence taken m8!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I was just slightly miffed at fitting brand new ones and seeing them getting the effects of scratching already, after only 4 or so rides on the thing. :biggrin

if its not too bad, just T-cut them and polish after every wash, my gilles heel plates scuff up a bit with my daytonas and supertechs.nae bother really, if you saw my full carbon mille, you can see various scratches etc,(do I really care with 47k on it!!!)... after all if its not too deep, its only gel coat.Tcut should do it, failing that try venture shield thingy, mind you that will prolly scuff up nicely to a milky shade, mind you at least you can stick another piece on.
cheers CK

Scratches ...... bloody nightmare ....... especially on carbon.

We all have our methods of cleaning / removing or hiding scratches and if it works ............ stick with it :thumbup

If your not happy with the results, I've found the best method to remove scratches from your carbon if its gel-coat or lacquer damage is:

1 Lightly rub with 1000 grade wet n dry using soapy water

2 Repeat with 1500 grade wet n dry using soapy water

3 Rub the abraded area with FARECLA G3 on a damp cloth ....... then rub clean with a dry cloth

4 If still not happy rub with a little FINESSE IT on a dry cloth .... :thumbup

If thats not done the trick :dunno sorry gonna be a re-coating job.

RIDE SAFE .......... Boyler
