Ok i'm in the middle of doing a few mods on the bike and am keen to sort the stator out. I have been quoted nearly 100 quid to have it rewound.
Yet there are places in the states selling them for $139 which is about 90 quid plus shipping. These are said to be better than oem??
I have several trips abroad planned this year and am taking the precaution as i don't want any problems when i'm away.
So what do i do re-wind or replace??
I am doing the brown connector mod, have also done front sprocket and may fit a gabro chip too.
But tyres are a must first.
I could always part ex it for a jap bike that is an option.

Don't forget that you may get caught with the customs charge on top of the £90 odd quid.
Have you got a problem with it? If not leave it be, or have it rewound would be my advice.
At least with a rewind you can take it back if there's a problem, you can also get them to leave tails that are long enough
to do away with one of the troublesome connectors.

No i haven't had any problems at all it precautionary as i don't want a problem when i'm away. I see on other forums that if it not been a problem then leave it, yet others have gone through 2 or 3 in a year

my friend , its the 04 -05 milles that really suffered with this problem, its rare that a T gets blighted

the ol phrase applies here my friend, if it aint broken dont fix it!

thtas my advice to you!

Thanks for the replies i am having it rewound by altech. They have looked at the issues with the stator and have come up with a plan.
I am going to disagree with you fusebox as it appears tuonos are prone to stator burn out. I just can't take the risk.

You don't say what generation or year your bike is. The stator issue is only a problem on GenII motors built between 2005-2007. There is a thread on AF1 which actually gives the suspect engine numbers. If your bike is one of the 'affected'...changing the stator WILL NOT fix the problem, it will however buy you a little extra breathing space...but it will fail again, usually within 10,000m.
To fix the issue, you need to swap out the stator AND the flywheel. the later flywheel produces less output, and doesn't put so much of a load on the stator windings.

You say you can't take the 'risk'?
I'm guessing you're a doctor or a paramedic on standby or something similar?

Finally, listen to Griff (fusebox) he knows what he's talking about....more people trust their Aprilias to him in the UK than ANY other tech.
If you need a second opinion on this, leave a post, or do a search on AF1. There is a world of info there explaining the stator/rotor issues.
