Had an issue getting started this morning. She started first time went to put in gear but forgot side stand was still down, so cut out as normal. After that tried to start again and it wouldn't fire up this time.

Im not sure if the cold is affecting it or not? But im thinking about doing the side stand mod to see if its anything to do with that.

Battery seems fine, cleaned the spark plugs after it wouldn't start

Anyone else got any suggestions?

Thanks
Nick

Always start at the battery mate ... They take some cranking, check the voltage (the onboard voltage reader can be inaccurate).

Do you keep it on a tender? The cold does affect them

I think you can rule the side stand switch out, that usually kicks in when the bike is moving over a bump or mid corner ...a nice laxitive effect

Can you hear the pump priming? Does it just feebly try to turn over or is it making a clicking noise??

Since buying mine I've stalled it on the drive once and switched it off on the drive once really quickly after starting, both times the bugger refused to start again. My thought is that as you put the ignition on the second time it reprimes the fuel and floods it, then takes ages to dry itself out. If you keep at it the battery looses enuff power in the first couple of goes to render it feckin useless, so needs to be put on charge and left for ages. Both times with mine the battery kept cranking it over, but didn't have sufficient to fire up.
Just my experience thus far.

Ive charged the battery, the pump primes. It just wont spark, i think it could be spark plugs i took them out yesterday part of the ceramic on one of them had cracked so ordered 4 new ones hopefully this will solve the issue

Had the same problems. Changed the battery and starter relay, it was fine for a couple of months then did it again. I then put an extra earth cable from the battery negative to the frame and it has been fine since March.

So far so good with the new sparks not had any issues even with these extra cold mornings!!

This time of year i think you only get 1 crack at starting some mille`s ?

Tried starting mine after giving it it`s winter wash for hibernation ...........no go . Stuck 4 new plugs in it , charged the battery and that was her , fired up no problems .

The gap on the plugs seemed to have opened up quite a bit , could the beowulf can be causing it to run too lean i wonder ??

thats exactly just like mine, starts first time, but if it doesnt keep running it wont start again and smells like a petrol refinery.hopefully a new battery and solonoid will cure that.or will it.is there a good way to start these monsters.

Mine was okay since last march putting the extra earth strap on, until the other day. I rode about 60 miles came home stopped off at the petrol station, went to start her up then click click click again. Would not fire up. I had to get a bloke to bump start me. I came home, put it on the charger for a few hours and since then it fires up! Ive not road her since so not 100% if it was down to the battery being charged. When I went out on her and the 60 mile ride, surely that would have charged the battery anyway?

ive just ordered a more powerful battery, mine starts up straight away with a decent charge, should be fine on new battery.no problems once it gets warm.

I have done the wire mods, got a powerfull battery and replaced the solenoid and it starts very well now.

If it stalls and you need to restart give it 20-30 seconds before doing so as this will release some pressure before you turn it over..

Just bought a new uprated varta ttz 14sbs battery for mine as I was getting racked at the morning starting lottery. I know some folk have replaced the solenoid for a 150 amp one, is this necessary with the higher output battery or just a further improvement?

my ampage on my replacment solonoid is 100amp. the battery is a Yuasa YTX14-BS YTX14BS.

got my new battery and bigger amp solonoid start on the button first time every time, using no throttle just a little choke.was out today and some kid in is porche tried to take me on at the lights.rolling start and bam he disapeared in reverse,i was well made up.monster of a bike and the gears are so tall it rolls on forever between changes.bit hard on the suspention, but ill get use to it.:doug

Typan, Aprilia went to a fair bit of expense making the suspension adjustable to riding conditions and rider weight, NO excuse for it being too hard. There is a world of improvement having it set up by someone skilled. (or following a guide)

Oops, that read a little harsh, but you will enjoy your bike so much more if the suspension is working for you and not against you. Griff at AP probably isnt too far from you for a day trip, he'll make that bike feel like an extension of your own limbs.

Is the 100 amp solenoid good enough or does it need to be the 150 think mines on its way out keeps resetting clocks an not wanting to start

How old is the battery?....go for new battery and solenoid...brown connector mod etc to make sure it's all good
