Looking for step for a hint/point in right direction..
Bike has a new battery, its on an Optimate charger and is holding a charge.
There have been a few months of inactivity but had bike out last weekend, running ok.Bike on its side in garage last week,no visible damage but could this have caused a problem?
Engine turns over ,good power but wont start.???.

i had the same problem , have a look at the side stand switch , disconect it at the loom under the tank , try starting it out of gear , then if it starts you will have to the join the brown and black wires together as when you put it in gear it will cut out.

I had this problem the other day - It was just turning over and stinking of fuel! I did the old trick of leaving the cold start lever off and cranking it over at half throttle and it fired right up! Ive replaced my starter solenoid for a 150 amp aprilia one last year so id check that first if you havent already done so...

Hey there folks just landed myself an RSVR , 2000 model really good price low miles, i have`nt riden it for a month or so , it has new battery and upgraded solenoid and is optimizing as we speak , but i cannot get it running , it just turns over and smells of fuel, any ideas guys, sorry if this sounds al ittle stupid but am i missing something?

welcome Leeroy! bit of a common issue this one! my advice isn't worth a great deal as i ain't mechanically savvy but have u had the plugs out? what voltage reading are u getting on the dash? correct starting procedure; fast idle fully on, no throttle then hit the button. it's advisable not to keep trying after a couple of attempts as potential damage to the spragg clutch may be caused. as i say, welcome to Aprilia ownership! start a new thread on the subject and you'll get more responses from some really clever people!

welcome to the zone pal.could be flooded as it easily happens in this weather, this is the flood start method:
open the cold start lever, open throttle fully and hit the starter.don't leave throttle open any longer than it takes to start....leave cold start fully open till it hits about 45 degrees then wind it back in a little till it hits 50 odd then you should be idling pretty smoothly:thumbup
