starting problem...button??

sometimes when i hit the starter button nothing happens, sometimes it turns over for a split second and then stops, most of the time it just fires up first time without any issue.

it's a 2010 bike, the switchgear is a second hand one, off a 2008 bike with average miles (came from hills, have had loads of bits from them so trust them) i'm thinking it's just a dicky connection somewhere??

am away for the weekend so will have a good fiddle round and a clean next week but just wondering if anyone had any ideas or had similar issues?

it isn't temperature related and has been plugged in, only fault was pressure sensor, sorted as it was only a connector that had come out of the connector block.

forgot to say, battery i assume is fine as it started the bike after being off for best part of a year and runs nice and smooth when it fires up.

See whit it's like next week, yer no goinae dae ouwt wae it till then anywhoo ya FUD.

A swear they're gettin thicker by the minute. :crazy

had a good clean round and still the same, any suggestions?

should the bike start on the side stand?

will make up a fly lead/switch and bypass the button just in case it's the switch.

Stop hitting the starter button, and caress it like a clit.
Battery could be fooked if its been standing for a yr - give it a good charge & try again.

If an engine (especially a big twin {or single}) happens to stop just before TBC, then when you try to re-start (worse if the battery is past its best) the starter motor hasn't got time to store energy in the flywheel and "stalls". When you release the button, the engine "bounces" back under pneumatic pressure and, usually, starts better second try. I bet a new battery will sort this problem. Could you borrow a battery to see if it's any better?

sometimes nothing at all happens, am thinking the battery is fine, was stood for a year and cranked it over fine. has been on a few good runs since, so should of had a good charge.

will see if one of my others will fit to rule it out.

does the clutch switch have anything to do with the starting circuit?

battery battery battery! Theres nae way its sat that long an nae deteriorated nae matter how ye thnk its chargin on a run

These V twins need a fair kick tae turn over then maintain momentum while startin up so a weak or duff cell in the battery will definitely effect.

Ah speak from experience on both mah T and the Caponord ( same V twin base engine). New batts cured the ills ah had staright off.

Battery! 95% just isn't enough, it.need to be 100% else you'll screw.the sprag clutch on the starter.
Optimate or chargers ain't always good enough.
That said, mine played silly Buggery cos of lack of use.
If you want to ckeck your starter solenoid by all means, but disconnected motor first and keep trying to start it. Solenoid contacts can fur up....

it's not battery related, trust me on that one, when it turns over etc it isn't sluggish, when it doesn't do anything there isn't even a click form the solenoid etc.

it's going to be one of those pain in the bum dodgy connections that will take ages to find and only be found by a sheer fluke!!

HAHA...it's fixed, well fingers crossed it's fixed, had the tank off this afternoon and checked the fuel pump wiring where it connects to the loom and couple of connectors in the block were a bit ******, gave them a good clean and has been fine since then.

out on it tonight and must of started it about ten times and was fine every time. so fingers crossed it's sorted :colgate
