Folks,

Just wanted to check if it was just my bike or if they are all like this, when i start mine from cold she starts no bother but it will just die again if i dont give it some throttle. She is fine once warmed up it idles nicely but its just this need to twist the throttle as it wont run when cold without it. Is this normal or is something up with it??

Hope it makes sense.

Oh and a Happy New Year to everyone all the best for 2013 when it comes..

Cant speak for all.... but mine needs no throttle to idle.... or keep running...

Btw... i hear griff n his boys are heading to scotland in the new year..... be rude not to if you want ya steed runnin as god intended !

Hp ny !

:)

Just press the button and IF & I mean IF it starts it will fast idle just fine, Happy New Year to everyone.:cheers

Cheers folks, ok means i have a problem i will check the breather pipes first off and see if there is a problem there. Any hints or tips on what else to check?

The stepper motor that controls the fast idle mebbe?

Right next to the stairs mucker. :rolleyes

Happy New Year. :thumbup

Where abouts is that stepper motor located Keith??
Its under the air box.Bit of a write up on cleaning it here.
Other items to consider are throttle bodies,......are they balanced correctly?Could be one of the sensors like air temp, water temp or atmospheric pressure.
Ive also heard that a faulty stator can make the bike stall at low revs,.....fingers crossed its not that.

Thanks Keith, bike runs fine and if i check the battery with my multimetre the battery is being charged when the bike is running, if the stator was questionable would i still see the battery being charged when running?

I will pull the stepper motor off and see if its working, am i correct in thinking if i take the lid off the air filter housing and switch the ignition on then i should see the motor move?

Thanks again.

You should see around 14.5v dc @ 4,000rpm across the battery terminals.Anything less than 13v could mean the stator is on the way out and you will need to investigate further.

Not sure tbh.Probably easier to remove the airbox and look at it from underneath.

Worryingly i found this post http://www.tuonozone.com/forums/showthread.php?5451-Cold-start&highlight=cold+start and in both cases it was down to the ECU. Is there any easy way other than getting my hands on another if its the ECU??

Struggling to see how it would run fine when warm then only have the problem when cold with an ECU but from the two guys in that thread it was definitely an ECU issue. Mine is the same as Dimania video in the first post in the link just wont idle unless you give it some throttle. Nobody else around me with a T that could try swapping ECU's on is there? Is it simply a case of swapping them take it the keys dont need to be coded to change the ECU over??
