Hi Last weekend RSV1000 03 wouldn't start, she was a bit groggy.

Tried again and she tried to turn over and died completely! No lights on dash, all gone.

Checked the Battery and had killed it, no charge at all, even after charging. I think its one of those warp'd plate thingys.

So checked forums, thanks guys and purchased Yuasa YTX12SB today.

Fitting this evening when connected, with ingnition off she tried to turn over constantly, even with kill switch in, and keys out. I know she wants to go for a ride but there are rules.

Checked Ignition switch seems ok. Any Ideas greatly received. Thanks in advance.

Love the forums they help constantly.

sounds like a sticky starter solinoid/relay,
I would have another look at the battery leads/connections .

Forgive me for my ignorance, but how would you cure a sticky starter solenoid/Relay?

All the leads are as was, haven't changed anything. Cheers

Firstly you can disconnect the two thick cables that route the battery positive to the starter motor (so all that is connected to it is the two thin wires that come from the starter button). Then turn the ignition on and thumb the starter button on and off to see if it's clicking away like it should. I can't remember if you can dismantle the solenoid to clean it or not. If you can, give it a scrub, if not order a new one. I think the genuine Aprilia solenoid is now a 150A one and a reasonable price so no more need to order the Yamaha one.

Starter solenoid looks like this under the riders seat:

Many thanks for the advice, I will let you know how i get on ......:roll

You have knackered the solenoid by trying to start it with a bad battery, it has fused the thing together meaning you have no break in current even when you pull the key.

You must replace solenoid with a 100amp or 150amp one as the original is poor, also you would have been better spending some extra on a YTZ14S-BS battery.

Ok not going so well.

I removed the two large cables, normal starting procedure all good realy clicking away as it should.

So wired all up turned ignition on, primed etc started first time all good.

Turned ignition off and noise at front of bike it sounded as though trying to restart?????? Had to disconnect battery.

It seems that the relay is good and doing what it should.

Should i get new relay/solenoid? Or could this being caused by something else?

All thoughts greatly received.

i still say your solenoid, try one of another bike if you can or just buy a new one, they are less than £30

Yes straight after posting last msg i came to same conclusion.

Got new one sub 30 quid from Bikersworld East Grinstead Sussex Aprilia dealer, really great guys.

Hopefully upon fitting tomorrow will be the end of my saga.

Also found this link on the whole science solenoid thing interesting:

All sorted, fitted new 150 amp hitachi, fired up nicely and turned off.

Many thanks for all the help. Happy Biker Again !
