Has anyone out there tried out one of these starter relays:dunno

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/new-Aprilia-S...66:2|39:1|72:1689|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50

Would like to know if it makes a big differance to starting or not, as the one as standard is only a 50amp and if the battery has not come straight off the battery Doc there can be trouble with starting. Would like to know if they are worth the dollars or pounds as it be?

No probs Theruck, looking forward to your feedback. It should give the starter motor a much better kick in the arse:thumbup

The thing that made starting my bike LOADS better was iridium spark plugs and a westco battery, that relay is just higher rated amps so should not burn out like the OE ones that were rated 50 amp i think

I think it should turn the bike over faster:dunno. Funny that as standard it is a 50amp when the manual lists that it is a 100amp:dunno. Problem is not that it won't start, it is that it won't turn the starter motor over if the battery is not just off the battery Doc and then all the settings on the dash go back to zero and the shift light automatically goes back to 6000rpm after the rpm needle has gone all spastic, and after a few pushes on the starter button the bike will just turn over, lucky it only takes one turn over to kick into life. Maybe the smaller battery on the Mille R model is part of the problem. Be very intersting to see if the higher amp relay makes a difference!:sigh

this is basically a faulty starter solenoid which is the reason i am changing it also. i will let you know if it helped. i have the same symptoms as you describe. my theory is that there is a cold contact in the starter relay so the voltage goes down to 9 Volt when starting even with new battery (can be seen on the dashboard when you are starting) so the clocks get reset just as you would disconnect the battery

It's a mate of mine selling these called Adam, he's a top Aprilia mechanic in the Northwest of England and had his own business until a certain bike maker never payed him for services rendered and had to close up shop. He used to do all the work on the Aprilia road test and Aprilia experience fleet in the UK.
He certainly knows his stuff and is a good mate of fusebox here on the forum. I can recommend the relay as it's made a huge difference to the starting on my factory.

SPOOKY :ghostface

Cool, thanks for that. Am I correct that it turns the starter over faster and gives the starter a more powerful hit?

Hey Spooky, do you have a direct contact for Adam:dunno as I would like to purchase a couple of them direct from him if possible. Cheers:biggrin

It deffo gives a bigger kick to the starter and spins the motor up quicker. I fitted a 150A solenoid (Aprilia uprated one for £28 from Fleabay) at the same time as I upgraded to a 14AH batt. Now the thing starts immediately on the button. You've effectively given the batt a bigger pipe to send its available ampage through. Won't do anything if the batt and the charging system are suspect tho'!

:thumbupGood one Theruck, I have two on the way:doug, will get them in about 7 days as New Zealand is so far away from England. I think Adam will do a roaring trade in them now we now how to fix that annoying problem:thumbup.

Fitted mine this week.Out round The Trough Of Bowland 100 miles plus.Definately fires up on the button. Can only recommend IMFO.Regards AL

Does anybody has the part number from the updated starter from aprilia, or I just go there and say I need one?

My bike starts fine, always, but cant hurt :D
