Standard gear position indicator?

Hi everybody.

Before I start I'd just like to say I haven't had my '08 RSVR long and I'm still learning so forgive me if this is a stupid question but I noticed in certain light you can see in the top left section of the speedo console etc, where the lap indicator is, the word "GEAR" is visible under "LAP."

I've searched numerous threads and posts but couldn't find anything specific, (sorry if I didn't look hard enough!) However I did find a few threads on aftermarket gear position indicators which would suggested to me that it probably doesn't work but I thought I'd ask just out of interest really.

I'm guessing if it doesn't work it was an idea Aprilia didn't pursue or is it a Factory only option? Thanks in advance for any info as it's the one thing I really miss from my previous bike.

You're right. It doesn't work.

But please post up the gear indicator OEM part you referred to.

ps, I have the Factory, and no, it doesn't work for me either.

pps, could you do me a favor and post more pics of your bike? I love the white mang....

The lcd in the clocks had the layout to include a gear indicator but i'm informed Aprilia couldn't get it reliable when the bike was in prototype pre 04. For that reason it never got added.

It got put on the shiver and fails on a fairly regular basis so maybe they did us a favour.

I am told if you stand on 1 leg and whistle "im a dandy doodle dandy" whilst turning on the ignition and holding the lap button with your tongue that it gets activated.

let me know if it works for you. :biggrin

Sorry, tried it with a mates 06 factory bike and I can 100% CONFIRM IT DOESN'T. Spoonz, ya **** for making me try!!!!

Also got the gear indicator working although got some funny looks while doing it, now what tune do I need to whistle to get the clutch and back brake working? :grinning

Oh you really, really don't want to know. Apparently it involves inserting things and a lot of tears. I am so glad I have a 03 bike!

No probs. Hope this helps.

The only gear indicators I could find reference to were a "DG8" on a '05 Factory which appeared problematic and also a couple of "Datatool digi gear indicators" on an '01 & '02 Mille respectively. One of which was fine and the other that was also problematic.

I'll post up pics of the bike over the next couple days in my forum garage, but what's a "white mang...." :grinning

I'm sure you're joking AusRSV but I thought I'd just clarify in case someone else reads my/our previous posts in isolation or out of context that I haven't got the standard gear position indicator working and I never will according to spoonz who knows all! Good enough for me. Case closed.

(I know what it's like when you do a key word search for threads and posts on a specific subject and you think you've found the holy grail of what your after but after reading for a bit it turns out you've just found holy **** instead!)
