Spray clutch?

Hi,

Do these spray clutches really cause so many issues? And how do you stop them from going wrong? The Aprilia dealership near me said they don't have that many go wrong but I've seen loads of people complaining about them.

****** batteries and solenoids cause the issue mate, and it's not mental common but it has been known!

Not as hideous a problem as some folk make out fella!

Just keep the battery in tip top shape or ideally change it for a ttz14sbs they e got a much better cold cranking rating than any other battery that will fit in the battery box on our bikes!

Good power supply = safer spragg!

What Griff said, plus always push the starter button fully home and hold it until it fires, none of the little stabs you give a Jap I4.

ok so i've found a Varta TTZ14S-BS and a Yuasa TTZ14S-BS, which one is correct?

Why not go for the one griff mentioned. He can prob get you one and get it delivered. I wouldn't question anything which he says as the mans spot on as far as I can tell from what he says and what others say about him.

I think you miss understood me, I was questioning just asking which is correct, I found 2 batteries with the same product number just wanted to know the make of the battery that's all.

i think i'm right in saying that you should NEVER start with the throttle open, always shut...

switch on, let needle sweep, press and hold button til fired...

An keep yer clarty mitts aff the throttle ...the Ts mega brain kens whit it needs re how muckle juice its needin tae run wi oot any throttle action frae u..:thumbup

Mines making some funny noises again from the area where the sprag is located - oh dear.....
I've got a Yuasa YTX-14BS in my T and the starter solenoid was replaced with a new one last october but she is still a bit apprehensive to fire....
I tried to start it yesterday but failed so left it overnight and came back this morning - Tried again and it almost fired but failed again sooooo I'am going to try some other ideas.
I'am gonna take the plugs out and check em and I'am also going to check all the HT coils and leads to make sure there isn't a problem there....

WISH ME LUCK lol

Well it's amazing what a bit of sunny weather can do for an Italian bike's electrics....

I have been having trouble starting mine for a few days, with the engine turning over but not firing and then going away and leaving it for a bit, then coming back and trying again and having the engine almost fire but dying again, but when I tried to start it today, with all the nice sunshine around, (Saturday 19th March) it fired up first time - Unbelievable....
....All be it with a bit of a cough and splutter from too much fuel in the chambers but once it was warmed up it was fine - I also shut the engine off and then started it up again a few times just to make sure that it wasn't a fluke and all was fine.

You were right rico - It takes a long time to access the front plugs, but, even when your ready to get them out it is still a pain because there ain't much room to work in - but I got there in the end - All the plugs where OK by the way.
One thing I found though, I don't know if anyone else has had this problem ??? - When I came to remount the tank, the two little screws right at the front of the tank would not locate into their holes near the headstock properly, so I had to undo all four of the little screws that secure the tank mounting bracket to the rear subframe, screw in the front two screws first then screw in the tank bracket screws last to get it to fit right ???
Should this be the case or is there something I'am missing ???

I got the old girl working just in time to enjoy a bit of todays sunshine, which was nice :cheers
