Im guessing the Sprag itself (3) is likely to be the main failure point, how likely is it the Gear (1) and what i assume is the housing (4) will be cream crackered too?

Gonna try a makeshift puller, some Gas and a few bottles of London Pride on the flywheel tomorrow :devious

Any help with this appreciated guys, im competant on the spanners just never worked on a 990 Rotax before so im willing to listen to the most basic of advice! On that note, where does the locking pin go?

Hi mate,

Yes item 3 the sprag is the bugger that breaks up, unfortunately it quite often damages the other parts too.

Best to pull it all apart and see what you need, you may be lucky and get away with just a sprag. Some owners have been known to get away with just tightening up the retainer wire on the sprag itself.

The flywheel is an absolute bugger to get off, plenty of heat and patience required with the correct puller.

Locking the engine, have a look at this thread - Click Me

Hope these help.

My advice is to take your time and do it right, don't scrimp and save on replacing the parts, you'll only end up doing it again later.
