Speedo Problem

I'm flummoxed!

So I STUPIDLY installed one of the optimate permanent charge feed connections and its ballsed up my speedo, I've replaced the speedo sensor (checked the voltage between the different coloured connections - haven't been able to get a zero reading when passing the disc bolt over the sensor ... Which points to sensor, yet even a new sensor has the same prob!).

Next I replaced the dash with no luck, then came the ECU ... NO luck, cleaned and slathered the fuses ... No luck! WTF?
I can get the sensor to zero on the multimeter if I physically touch it on the disc bolt so thought it may be the wavey disc (although before installing that f&£king optimate connection it worked flawlessly) and so installed washers on each of the disc bolts which gave me a 0.x Volt readings so thought I'd cracked it! nooooooooooo!

So ... What's the problem Chaps? Could the bolts be a prob (they're aprilia oem) could there now be an open circuit in the loom somewhere? Is there a relay specific to the speedo?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what sensor did you use ?
I replaced mine recently with an industrial one I got from the bay ( search cheap speedo fix for the type )
its just a capacitance sensor ,sends a pulse to the speedo unit simple enough unit , the standard one needs a 1 mm air gap to function , the replacement one is fine with 2-3mm

I used an OEM Aprilia part, not sure another sensor will necessarily sort it out as I've already tried 4 others?! I'll take a look at the one you suggest.

If the speedo worked before you installed the Optimate permanent charge feed connector, but doesn't work now, then to my simple little brain it suggests that you have cocked up the installation (god only knows how) If I was you I would disconnect the new connector, check speedo, and re-do the Optimate connector after checking all connection points.

Hi Gray, yep agreed, although pretty hard to **** up connecting two charge feeds @ 1 x neg & 1 x Pos :rant I think it was a power surge when I connected up the optimate for the first time, supposedly it detects when there's wiring present and does not deliver the circa 24 volt initial charge, I think by installing the perm feed connectors it failed to detect the wiring ... god knows why! :dowhat ) I uninstalled it pretty much straight after the speedo problem appeared so no longer on there.

Mike, thanks for the prompt, yep I remember that thread, I may well try it just for shitz and giggles ... although I'll be pretty pi$$ed if the new OEM sensor is defective!
