Speedo going haywire but not the usual solution

Noticed my speedo going nuts and all over the place a few weeks ago so I bought a new speedo sensor to solve the problem. It will be the 3rd speedo sensor I've had to replace on this bike. However, fitted the new sensor at the weekend and went out for the first time since Saturday on the bike yesterday. Speedo wasn't registering anything at all and then all of a sudden after a few miles, jumped into life ( but registering all over the place again ). So that afternoon at work I cleaned up all the rear disc bolts as best I could as they were showing a wee bit of corrosion on the heads. Rode home later that night and to begin with I thought I had sorted it as the speedo readings out of town in the 25-30mph sort of area were fine.

As soon as I got out onto the open road and gave it some welly up to higher speeds, the readings started jumping all over the place again. Hit another 30mph zone for a couple of miles and as the figures dropped down it settled and began to read properly again at around the 30mph mark. Back out the other side of the town and opened her up again - same thing - readings jumping all over the shop.

It seems to read ok at slow speed and gentle throttle openings but as soon as you open it up and start speeding up it goes nuts.

Any ideas?.

Check the connections at the plug which erm plugs into the speedo, give them a carefull rub with contact fluid and a paper clip

Cheers m8, I'll give that a go. I'm assuming its a bit of a pig to get at under the dash unless you remove the top fairing first?.

yes take off the nose cone, only 6 bolts

My mate had similar problem, he tried fresh sensor and clocks, it was bad connection

the cables to check are, green/purple and blue/orange
