Spark Plugs

My bike is going in for a service in a few weeks and they mentioned checking the spark plugs. If they are going to the trouble of getting them out do you think I should supply them with some decent plugs to replace them with?

What type of plug does the RSVR take and what is a good performance upgrade plug? I looked at RSVR.net where they have these:

IXU27 Ultra-fine 04mm Iridium Spark Plugs

Not cheap at almost £30 notes though before P+P

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks,
Mark

My 2001 has 4 plugs and would assume the newer one does have to being the same engine :dunno

NGK plugs in mine, you can get some iridium one too but the about 12 quid a plug and not to sure of the benefits:thumbup

I can't imagine a set of plugs ever making a huge difference, prehaps only in emotional BHP:nana

I'm not expecting a huge difference I was just thinking if they are taking them out is it worth sending a few more £ and replacing them with ones that might last longer and maybe be more efficient?

Just found the same IXU 27 for £18 for two so £5 a plug cheaper than RSVR.net!

I have just read

"Digital electronic ignition, with one spark plug per cylinder, integrated with fuel injection system"

for the 2006 RSVR but also seen:

"CDI type ignition with a TSI (Twin Spark Ignition) system, using 2 spark plugs per cylinder. Ignition is controlled by the engine"s integrated control system, which also controls injection."

For the Older versions?

So they can't have the same engine unless this Info is wrong? Also RSVR.Net are selling them in a twin pack? Surely when you replace the plugs you replace all of them? Whats going on?

I have no idea, to save any more issues to the brain area just say "can you replace the plugs whilst your there cheers mr grease monkey":thumbup

NGK DCPR9EVX seem to be the Cheaper Iridum plug for the RSVR.

I would rather know if it took 2 or 4 plugs though just cos I like to know my bikes.

What changes have they made to the 04 engine thats different to the 03 I was thinking the same as MSmilleR that the engines are the same in both models so have the same ammount of plugs i.e 4

my 05 RSVR has 2 plugs (one per cylinder) and i was under the impression all the newer bikes have only two plugs

forgot to mention i have iridium plugs, seemed to make a bit of a difference to me, starts easier and runs a fair bit smoother, the old plugs were not in the best of shape though and everyone has their own opinions so its your bike and your choice, if you dont mind parting with 30 quid for a small upgrade then why not!

Hi Tark/Mark,

I kind of recognise your name, did you do a couple of races in Bemsee for Renegade?

I raced the last meeting of 2004 on the RSVR for Riot Racing team mate to Don in the Supertwins and MRO Powerbikes.

Then I raced MRO Powerbikes for them in 2005 on a GSXR1000K1 (BAD MOVE) and tried my Hand at World Superstock on a 2004 R6 before running out of money.

Went back to 600's on a CBR600 F Sport in 2006 where I raced F600 at Derby Phoenix and the 2007 just sat offshore feeling sorry for myself!

Got myself a CBR600RR for this year but not finished it yet! Will be out at the end of theis month. Going to Race Derby Phoenix, New Era and MRO this year depending on when I am home from work.

The RSVR is just my expensive show peice for the road!

Out of interest how hard are the plugs to get out. Visions of scraped knuckles return to me after owning a VFR 400 previously.

Ahhh, thought so.

Yeah, it's an expensive hobby, especially if you want to be competitive.

My Bro-in-law raced against you and Don in Bemsee Supertwins 2003/2004 on a TLR. I think he spent somewhere in the region of 10-15k for 2 seasons.

That depends on the size of your hands and how lazy you are :nana

i dont usually have any major problems, the front cylinder plug can be a little hard to get at sometimes and is easier to remove the airbox to get at it, i always find the hardest part is pulling the damn ignition leads off the end of the plugs :angry

Rear cylinder plug is easy get at though, just need to lift the tank to get at them :biggrin
