Ive just bought a spare engine for my mille and what I want to know is there a number or code on it somewhere to determine the year or model of bike its from?

Yep next to the engine number on the rear of the crankcase
me = 98-00 small valve,
Rp =01-02 big valve
Rp ng = 03 big valve close ratio gearbox
