slow speed issues.

Hi folks...new to the forum and new to aprilia. Just brought a 2006 tuono r.

Always had in line 4 bikes and now have a 2006 tuono r. Love the bike, the only thing i find a bit odd is the slow speed, 1st gear sort of speed...the bike seems to lag slightly and seems like i need to really twist it on...plus when very slow through traffic and slow corners i have to dip the clutch slightly to stop it being a bit jerky.*

My question is, is this normal for a vtwin and its just a case of me not being used to its charachter or is it something wrong. Once on the move the bike is fantastic but just seems a little sluggish and jerky when commuting.

Thanks in advance

Welcome Stewie,
Sounds like usual Tuono traits.

Most bikes that age would normally have a smaller front sprocket and sometimes a larger rear sprocket as well.

Being an 2006 model, I would have thought this would have been done by now.

Perhaps you are not used to it yet, especially after a jap 4 pot.

They are a bit lumpy and jerky around town if you are not used to them.

Do a search on here for approved sprocket sizes and check to see what you have fitted, my bike is buried at the back of the garage for the winter or I would check.

Ps, post some pics.

Thanks alot for the quick reply, i thought it maybe me just not being used to it...once its going its a fantastic bike and only 10k on the clock. Plus had 2 years off riding so a bit of both i think. Slowly getting used to it and finding that it really needs to be grabbed by the horns.

As above, check ya sprocket size....... if its not on 15fr 42 rr..... then try it !!!! :)

notice none standard cans.... worth checking its on map 2...

with 10k on the clock, your next service will be due at 12k.... map check is included in this + balancing TB's + o2 set up mite help too...

you will never dial it all out.... tiz a big V twin !

have Fun

:)

Yep, Map 2 and lower gearing and all will be good. It'll still be a tad lumpy around town (I have to be honest I hated my T around town, but as soon as I hit a NSL road and opened it up I remembered why I loved it so much) but much better. A big v twin will always take some getting used to if you've come from years on IL4s.

Greetings & welcome to the forum.
My old T was an 06 plate too and was on original sprockets, you learn to ride around the jerks (in more ways then one) and use the clutch a bit more. The pay off is the V twin grunt. Ride the tits of it and have fun.

Brilliant guys thanks for the advice and im happy its nothing wrong. Yep aftermarket beowulf cans...one of the loudest things ive heard in a while. I shall look into the sprockets.

Many thanks
