Slipper Clutch One Way Valve

A

amb67

Decided that my so called slipper clutch was virtually non functional the other day so I decided to take it off and test it.

Sure enough I could blow through it both ways with ease.

Knowing full well that it was scrap anyhow I decided to dismantle it to see what had gone wrong, this is what I found:

Oh well, off to InMoto in Croydon tomorrow to see if they have any on the shelf.

Worth testing as it only takes 30 seconds.

As I gather it only works if you change down on a closed throttle,is it any great benefit?? :dunno

Although if it's there I guess it should be functional, but how many people actually downshift without matching the revs anyway ? it's not a true slipper clutch nor really a "back torque limiting device" like the one way cam setup on the Suzuki V twins.

That valve in the pic is the old type. It has been superceeded by a new and much more reliable version.

The old ones failed regularly.

IanG it works on vacuum in the Tb's which will only be high on a closed or nearly closed throttle. If you like to rev match on downchanges it may prevent the slipper from doing much. Better something than nothing though.

Judging by how tight it was in those pipes, I agree it must be the original fitment.

I had heard that it had been superseded by a much more robust unit and shall post a piccie of the new one before I fit it.

I agree that it is hardly ever used but when pressing on a bit it does have its uses, trust me. :doug

PS. Mine was fitted with the arrow facing up towards the throttle bodies, is this correct as I cannot see any details in the workshop manual about this?

Mine is like yours in the picture and broken in the same way, it was also fitted with the arrow facing upwards and i had to use a flat head screwdriver to lever the beggar off.

Please wheres a good place to order one and get sent to me reasonably quickly?

Send me a PM and if my local Ape dealer has 2 tomorrow i'll get you one and post it to you.

Where is this one way valve located? and do I have to take the tank up?

Nah, you can get at it with the tank in situ.

Crouch down by the bike on the throttle side and you can see it in between the tank and the frame.

One way - Non return valve

Hello,

This is for several years, but can you tell me the reference of the check valve you have used please?

Is this an adaptable model?

Thank you very much for your attention.

Best regards,

Jean-Pierre Cane
