Slight front wheel issue??

Alright guys,

I was getting the bike ready for coming out to play this week when i re-tax it and noticed that when i spin the front wheel (had bike on stands!!) it won't rotate fully? There's something catching somewhere and stopping it dead!? i can push the wheel through whatever is stopping it but it's a little worrying. I had the wheel off to fit the reconditioned discs, which, i presume will be straight otherwise ABE would probably have told me, so where do i start first?? Is it possible to "ovetighten" the nut on the spindle? Any suggestions welcome.

Andi, make sure your discs are seated flush all the way round.

Just takes a small piece of **** under the mounting face to cause them to sit pissed and rub on the pads when you spin the wheel up.

Cheers Alan and Tim mate, i'll whip the wheel off tomorrow and double check everything.

Sticky bobbins is the most likely thing there is a thread on it in the forum:thumbup:thumbup

if its the oxford front stand that goes under the legs
make sure its seated right as when it isn't it can sit against the disc

did you bounce the forks to let them straighten up? sometimes the wheel can be a fraction out and cause it to rub on the discs.
when i remove my wheel i always put it back together but not tightening anything then bounce the forks a few time then nip everything up. works for me.

Thanks for the advice guys, removed wheel, cleaned up the discs and mounting surfaces and put back together. alittlebetter but still catches somewhere. gonna givevit aright good thrashing this weekend and see if this eases itvoff any!!

Take one of the calipers off and turn the wheel to see if that it still catches, then take the other one off.

That way you will see what side and which pad is causing trouble.

It's the left pads that seem to be catching.........will give it a run this weekend and see what's what after that.......:thumbup

Hey Andi, might be worth putting your ear to the hub and make sure there's no bearing rumble when you spin it.
cheers

Andy, be careful. If it is tight enough to stop the wheel, you may end up causing so much friction that you get caliper seizure and then your wheel will stop and you will be 20 yards in front of the bike! Take it easy.

Have you checked all your front brake fluid levels?

Thanks guys, yeah fluids are good, i'll take it easy for a couple of miles, return home and give them a check.........thanks again..................:thumbup

Clyde mate.......checked that before refitted the calipers and was smooth and silent (thankfully)..........pretty peeved about it now as hoped after a clean they'd have been ok.......................:rant
