Hi all.
Ive been riding my RSV and can hear what sounds like something metalic skimming off another metalic part. If you can imagine something spinning on a shaft and it being off cetre and slightly touching another metal part as its spininng producing this skimming noise.
Its more prominant in 5th and 6th gear and stops when clutch is pulled in.
Any ideas anyone? i dont have any problems with gear change. :confused

funny that as a mate bought a brand new tuono and kept complaining of that and when I rode it I couldn't hear anything but say to him "it's new, it's under warrenty it can't be anything to worry about". He likened it to a meat slicer blade with a zing sound. He sold the bike with about 300mls having no probs whatsoever and then I buy an 03 rsv and every now and then get the same noise, I just put it down to engine noise when everything is at the right point in time to hear it!!!

Thats exactly the noise im hearing and mine is also an 03 model. and badgermilk it definatly not the brakes

hi bud if it goes away when you pull the clutch then it cant be the blinking brake pads as some guy said lol ,what your getting sounds like the same as my problem mate.when i pullled my clutch in the noise went away but i could feel some vibes through my clutch lever also .its the bearing on your clutch pressure plate thats about to collapse ,catch it now and you should be fine with no damage to your clutch mate. very easy job to fix
take off belly pan and side fairing, keep bike on the side stand and remove your clutch casing remove rubber diaphram with care not to tear it .the centre push rod comes out with the diaphram once thats off you can see the bearing im telling you about then remove the 6 bolts and springs and take of pressure plate im sure you will find that the bearing is ****** . make sure you get all 11 balls from the old bearing .
im doing the same thing as we speek taken out all the clutch plates to clean them before i rebuild . you can get that bearing from the phone number on my bearings and seals post i put up from a few days ago 01772 622543 will be cheaper than aprilia dealer ask for steve tell him where you got the number from he will know what bearing it is .even give him my name john from strathclyde gearboxes he will post it to you tell him you want the big john discount lol he wont rob you either
keep all your clutch plates in the same order and put back the same way EASY:thumbup job done mate hope this helps mate good luck :)

undo the 19mm nut on the end of push rod with a spanner and 6mm allen key remove diaphram then you will see the bearing ...
sorry i said it wrong the first time lol

Biff thanks for that mate...ive not rode bike since this issue and am looking at doing the job very soon. Have you sorted yours? still making this noise? how much was the bearing mate?

This is all i do after removing clutch casing and rubber diaphram?

It may not be the bearing at all!
I had the same noise on mine there are about six springs in the back of clutch basket it's self (not the pressure plate ones)and they are held in place with a plate the plate wears and the springs get lose and create this noise which goes when the clutch is pulled in I spoke to griff about it the plate can be loosened and turned slightly to take the play out and the noise did go away for abit till the plate wears again
I have had to change the basket itself now and the noise has gone completely

yes but you need to remove the 6 bolts next and the springs then take off the outer cluch basket casing as the bearing fits in from behind it ,then fit new bearing and refit everything the way you took it off and you should be sorted mate .. good luck oh and as jaseyb said on his reply to thread it could be that also . i hope its just the bearing mate its a cheeper fix .
