Changes to the law mean cars emitting less than 100g of CO2 per kilometre travelled would be exempt from paying Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax), while motorcycles are still required to pay.

This was outlined by your Chancellor Alistair Darling in his first budget last week, under the auspices of rewarding motorists for driving ‘green’ vehicles.

Despite Darling’s aim, the rate of road tax paid by motorcyclists is set to double in 2009, with the annual charge for a typical 125cc commuter bike set to grow from £15 per year at present, to £33 in 2009.

This makes a nonsense of the revised rates of vehicle excise duty, as motorcycles tend to emit less CO2 and use less fuel than cars, with the average CO2 output from motorcycles at 110g/km.

So why do those who ride greener two wheeled vehicles, use less road space and do not contribute to congestion get penalised whilst 4 wheel motorist whose vehicles use under 100g/km are exempt from road tax:rant

no logic, no common sense, just daft *******s after more and more money, a revolution is what we need, government has way too much power, its gone beyond stupidity, cant do anything anymore, this country is an absolute mess.

It's just a revenue generator, I really dislike politicians! :angry

Over regulated, reactive, no commonsense bullshite.
To register a motorcycle in the metropolitan area eg (50km diameter of a city GPO) it costs double the price than if i registered it in a country (rural area)). Bottom line here is..the gov't don't want big cc bikes, or any bikes for that matter in the metro. Yet a m/c is far more environmentally friendly than any stonking V8, driven by a gas head around the city. Once again we are persecuted for the choice to ride. As for politicians...bloody hell, don't get me started ffs. Fair dinkum tossers that sit in an ivory tower. Anyone got some spare C4? :D OK, for the snoops out there on the wires..i can & do talk ****..but hey, its called freedom of speech, and while we still got it, i'll use it. :pirate

I was shocked to discover that I had 6 different names and emails when I went through them all - who would have thought!!!! It would have been a shame not to have registered them all wouldnt it.

Done. Can anybody remember when Blair was sat astride a speed triple all them years ago saying "that tax would be wiped out for motorcycles" and we were going to be able to use bus lanes and the like to ease congestion as Labour thought the future form of transport was the motorcycle. What a vote hunting ******* :jack
Tories would have said the same. Maybe we should have given the Lib Dems a shout, at least Chaz Kennedy liked a dram or three. And to add insult to injury the DVLA are offering two cars in a draw with "zero road tax" as an incentive to tax your bikes. Rant over
SPOOKY :ghostface
