Sidestand...what is the issue?

I have lowered my bike (03) and had to chop a bit of the stand off and a mate is welding the foot back on for me.
The thing is that i have seen a few comments about the sidestands on here.
I struggled with mine in the first place, found it awkward and stiff, Hubby has just bought an 05 and he says the same.
Is there an issue with the stands then??:dunno:dunno
I see a couple of you guys have put Honda stands on your bikes?
I'm not very techy so wonder if anyone could enlighten me Please?

Thanks

Janie

The concerns are mainly with the angle, bike doesn't lean quite as much as normal stands. Some peeps fit the American sidestand, which kicks out more and feels more stable as a result.

I have the standard one and I am always careful where I park especially on roads with camber.

I still have the standard one on, and as StiX watch were I park. Some fit a blade stand which is similar to american one.

Ok, that explains why the stand was bent when I got it, and why it fell over!!

Cheers x

Yep,to add on to the other replies,....the oe Aprilia stand is too short and the leg is too close to the bike.It can make parking tricky on uneven ground. Many have had bikes fall over and one chap had his blow over in the wind.
Due to some obscure American law,a bikes sidestand must be capable of holding up with both rider and pillion aboard. The American stands kick out a bit further and are slightly longer.

European stand on the left,American on the right.
Yankee stands are the best, there are usually some on ebay US.(Dont forget you need both the stand and the bracket.)Expect to pay around £100 for a good one.
Fireblade stands bolt on the same as the oe Aprilia. The bike lean angle is about the same, only with a lot more secure 'foot'.Honda part number is 50530-MEL-000.Costs around £65 from your local dealer.

Have you lot gone soft ?

Where is the abuse that normally goes with this sort of question ?

I thought I had logged onto the Honda site by mistake.

I am sure Janie is feeling left out with all these nice helpful replies - only joking.

I always wondered what the difference was until I bought an American sidestand off Nob and then noticed the difference in lean angle. really makes a huge difference.

Also heard someones r/ tyre went flat in their garage and they found the bike on its side ???? my gen 2 seems ok , as my tyre went flat overnight (original)????????

My rear tyre went flat overnight in the shed, I fount the bike 'leaning' against the shed wall.
I should have heeded that 'gypsies warning' a month or so later, my bike got blown over up at the Pondo.
That was a £600 lesson quickly learned...:yes
I fitted a US sidestand and it's been all good since :thumbup

I have Gen1 Tuono. Is this sidestand for CBR1000RR 04-07 works for gen1 and gen2 or just for gen2? Thanks
