can someone remind me what the mod is to make the side stand safer, was it a particular fireblade item??, thanks

Buy an American one off Ebay. The genuine Aprilia stand over there is much thicker metal and also hits the ground further away from the centre line of the bike, so the triangle formed by wheels and stand is much bigger. Fitted to my 09 factory in about 10 minutes. No longer almost upright when parked and much more stable. Expect to pay around $80-90. Cheers, Steve

Fire blade 04-07 side stand
part number 50530-MEL-000
price £69.05

I've just got one for mine it'll need a blob of weld or something to
stop it hitting the exhaust when its stowed.
Easy to fit the springs are a pain in the arse though

Hook the springs on BEFORE yer put the bolt in. :yes

Noo that's got to be a fookin bargain. :yes

I have noticed since I've taken the std shock off and put an RSV one on in its place it is more stable on the std side stand than it was before?

I have installed the fireblade stand as per zippyque advised above. Bought from Honda for £69......probably the best investment as now I don't feel aprehensive every time I park the bike! Too many stories of them falling over.:thumbup

Zippyque, mine didn't foul the exhaust, in fact it stopped short by 7mm

I did read that one of the regular contributors on here had the same problem as you until he re seated his pipes properly and then the stand did not hit the exhaust. Hope this helps.

I've aftermarket exhausts (Blue flame) on its most likely the shape of the link pipe that vary from different manufacturers. All I've done is araldite a bit of metal about 1mm thick to the stand just to give me
about 5mm clearance

fitted my blackbird stand kindly supplied by nick for £20, had bit of a prob attaching spring, I ended up separating the two springs and using the smaller one; if anybody has any tips on where ive gone wrong, glad to have them; but its certainly a lot more canted over and stable; why though do aprilia make a big bolt with a stupid wee 8mm head on it?? thats crazy, especially as made of cheese and rounding off; good tip altogether

dc when I fitted my stand I attached the springs first then put it to the up position and slipped the bolt in, it wiz a bit of a wrestle but much easier than putting the springs on with the bolt in.

yep, probably would have been good idea, however, smaller spring seems to be fine and the stand is fully retracted and secure; ive just realised through looking at a parts diagram online that the small bolt i was moaning about appears to screw the switch into the main sidestand bolt itself?? it was obviously well seized in as it unscrewed the whole bolt, so i think i would be struggling to release the switch from the bolt head if i ever needed to. still feel better with the new stand on though, it definitely looks more secure

Yeah that small bolt will be smothered in Loctite,or similar,....hence why its a ***** to move.

I've given up looking for a 2nd hand fireblade item now and ordered new from Honda. We must order a few though as Honda uk is out of stock and had to order in from Japan.

best purchase you will ever make!! Went to Ace Cafe Italian night the other week.....funny watching my mate tentatively put his original stand down on his factory RSV and watch it wobble....mine, kick stand down and walk away sure it aint going anywhere!
