Is the power limited because the side stand switch light is on?

The only non-stock thing about the bike at the mo. is my side-stand which is from a fireblade, plugs straight on, and solid as a rock (unlike the bendy piece of rubber dangling under the bike to start with). But the kick-stand light was always on (I believe I lost the little nubin that turns the switch when I replaced it, which had the marvelous effect of disabling the switch), I was told by a bike shop that some bikes will have restricted power if the side-stand is registered as down?

I sorted it today by tracing back from the switch to the connector and shorting across the outside two pins.

So thats my question, is what he said true? Is it true of my bike?

Complete Bollocks. What moron told you that?
The side stand switch is a safety cut out device. Its there to cut the engine if you try to ride off with the stand down.

Fella at Ride On in Glasgow, probably just fishing for business. Did the bypass myself instead anyway

Keith's Churchillian icon is evidently very pertinent. They both have the knack of putting it pithily and cutting the crap! :yes

Paul,
You need to get that sidestand switch fixed. Taking a left bend fast with stand down is often life changing!!!

Not sure what benefit is of restricting engine power with side stand down! I'd definitely ask that question to the joker who told you that! :)

ver, Wow don't know how I missed this one.

Sounds like yer in need of some advise mucker, not sayin that mine would be any good but next time I'm going oot in company on ma machine I'll pm yer.

FFS do yer best to come and meet some fuds wae a wee bit of sense/advise/banter,,,,,,,,,,,,,who knows yer might stop askin daft questions.

Just repeating what I heard, thought it sounded iffy, but if there is a 'feature' like that it wouldn't be on older bikes anyway. Paul D, seems you know of someone who learned this the hard way, I'm not someone who likes to do that, but will give some thought to doing something with the side stand, maybe get the light to work, but allow the engine to run somehow. Majorly inconvenient otherwise, I like to leave my bike warming up onnits own while I fiddle with garage locks and gates etc. This is my 5th bike, all of them have had the side stand switch disabled, so I'm pretty used to checking. Your concern is noted though.. Ta

It will only cut out once you engage a gear , to stop you riding with the stand down,

You will be able to leave it in neutral ticking over to warm up no problem.
