Side stand cut out switch

Anyone got information on this little problem?

I have an RSV Mille (2000 W) and when I engage first gear with the side stand up the bike cuts out and lurches forward slightly. If I try to start the bike in gear; clutch engaged, it does the same thing. Bloke at the local garage said it was probably a faulty side stand cut out switch which will need replacing. Odd thing is that I've only just bought the bike and it didn't do it on the first couple of rides? Is this a common problem on this bike?

Not heard of it much but sounds like thats the problem or another simple thing is how low have you run the fuel down when the fuel lights been on for a while and you dont fill up,after a while the same sort of thing will happen,it'll start but thats it put it in gear and the engine dies only a suggestion it happened to a friend.
