Planned to service my Showa forks this week end. I have taken the forks out but there seems to be a problem with the outers. On each leg there are patches of oxidisation. Should I be worried about this or is it common on these forks?:confused:dowhat

All depends if it's just surface corrosion or are they heavily pitted?

Got any piccies?

Sabre this is what happened to mine,i would post a picbut for some reason im not allowed ???does it look like grey chalk when you pick it off?.my forks were covered in it,lots of little grey marks all over the outers.for peace of mind i got some replacements.

if you do a search for bad day 2 you will see a pic of what i had

We are talking about the outers - the black bits?

If yes, don't worry too much if they are only corroded on the surface as you described.

Mine were covered in a grey like powder when I dropped them through the yokes a few weeks ago, I did notice that it was located mostly around the top end near the lower yoke clamps.

Possibly a water trap of some sort?

Mine weren't pitted, had they been I would have binned them and put new outers on at the very least.

Not worth the risk really, is it?

Piece of mind and all that!!!!

depends how deep i suppose,i was told to fill them with chemical metal and rub down......but it played on my mind toooo much,so just got another pair off ebay.still aint fitted them yet tho(too lazy/stupid/broke)

its up to you mate what you do

Hi mate, well i got a bit of a bargain off flea bay,id been bidding on a few pairs but kept looseing out right at the last minute.they were all going for £120-£160 but i found a slighty bent pair for £20:thumbup and as the stanchions were ok on mine i thought id just change em over.im still to do this as im to lazy and broke at the moment......but some day i will pull my finger out and get them sorted.good luck in your search mate

stu

Have a word with cheesy. he put Ohlins on his recently and may have the Showa's going spare.

Since some of you have taken the forks apart...

Has anyone tried re-valving them?

racetech or Ohlins valves.

I love my Showa's. Infact I have just bought another brand new set off ebay. I wasn't impressed with the seals blowing out twice on my GSXR ohlins with the speed bumps in york.
