Hi I feel a bit of a fraud joining your site because I don't even have a bike at the moment.
However up until six years ago I was mad keen. I was the owner of a Blackbird and a member of IAM and then it all went **** up.
I am now ready to get back on.
I've always loved the Tuono and very nearly bought one 6 years ago.
I have seen one local to me and have so far resisted the urge to veiw it because a good friend of mine has urged me not to near Aprilia.
He spent years in charge of my local police force vehicles and is a proper mechanic and bike owner who covers over 20k miles a year on his various bikes.
Obviously you are all proud owners, I want to know about reliability and spares availability.
The bike I'm looking at is 06 with 4k on it.
I hope you can help.
Best Regards Paul

Go for it mucker, yer mate's blowin it oot his arse,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mechanic or not.

Rotax engines are damn near bullet-proof. You sure he wasn't talking about Ducati bikes? :lol

Go for it as long as the price is OK.

I've had mine for 6 years...and love it.
I used to swap bikes every 24 months, but there's NOTHING out there that I consider better.
Tried several bikes within my budget (£10k) and nothing comes close to the Tuono for putting a stupid grin on your face.
So mine's a keeper for now.

As has been said, the Rotax is virtually indestructible (providing you don't run it without oil & water)
Spares availability is good.
Aprilia community is great, with all the help & advice you'll ever need.

The bike is quick, light (anorexic when compared to a Blackbird) so easy to wheel around the garage.
Fuel consumption is mid 30's so not brilliant, however, the performance & handling is superb.

After your Blackbird, the Tuono will be a real eye-opener :)

gotta agree wi Aldo on this one...yer mates obviously nae real experience of Aprilias. Yes there has been some wi their problems but so do Beemer GS owners!!

Ive racked up near 60k miles between my Tuono and Caponord and nae any more issues ( in fact probs less) than any other bikes Ive ever owned. Servicin is a piece o pish as well.

As Tifa says engines are solid, as long as ye do all the basics maintenance wise, just like any engine. The Aprilia built quality is excellent despite what some may think. I ran my Tuono thru two salty winters and it hardly marked up at all.

Ah wid also say the my Tuono is the comfiest of all the bikes Ive ever own and Ive done some long days in the seat ahl tell ye. Ahm 6ft 1in 16 stone 51yr and wi rearsets fitted.

One thing ah wid say tho is dinnae jump at the first one ye see, shop around for a good un. If its a Gen 2 yer after then an 08 onwards if ye ye can afford it is the way tae go as there was the odd earlier Gen 2 Ts that did have some issues like failed stators and the infamous brown connector, very very rare tho so dont let it put you off.

Things to know....the rad hose clips will nae doubt leak at some point, easiliy fixed cheap, theres a thread on here some where.

Dropping front sprocket to a 15 tooth smooths out low speed/revs fuelling stutter, particularly with a 42 rear sprocket.

The back brake will be *****....the only real fix is shifting the master cyl into vertical position, usually wi fitting rearsets. Its no biggie unless really crap.

Clocks will occassionally mist, mines does.

Side stands nae the best positioned so what the camber when parking up

If its got after market cans on ask if its running on map 2 ) however if the bike runs fine on test ride then nae an issue really but good to know.

Good info here THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE TUONO. As I said some bikes have the odd issue but doesnt every one so dont let any of this put you off. The Tuono is a really unique bike and really gets you hooked, you,ll love it.

SO.........YES YOU SHOULD

Thanks everyone. My local dealer has just sold the one I was interested in, however I'll keep looking.
I think I'll go for it when the right one comes along.
Once again thanks for the advice.

Yes you should mate. I was a bit iffy about buying one, but do your homework read the forums etc . the tuono is one of bikings best kept secret a brill piece of kit .
