Should I buy the RSV

First time on the forum. I am thinking about purchasing a 2003 RSV 1000, I have owned numerous bikes to include US and Ducati. I prefer to have something that is not seen on every corner, which is why I have my eye on the RSV. I tend to be a very sedate and cautious rider, but I like the engineering behind the Aprilia.
Any tips on what I should look out for? Last bike was a Ducati ST2. I will mostly be riding in the city and a bit in the country.
Any hints would be appreciated!

Welcome mate. While I'd love you to join the ranks of happy RSV owners, I have to say that the Mille is not very nice to ride sedately - and you won't find too many Mille owners described as 'cautious'!
Being race-bred it's one of those bikes that feels pretty horrible at low speeds but gets better and better the faster you go. I strongly suggest that you ride one before buying one to see if it's for you.
You might be better off with a Falco or Futura, which use basically the same engine but with less radical riding position. They're still equally as exotic!

I'm with a303 mate. The rsv is not very nice at all around town but loves the country roads . If most of my riding was in towns I would look ar something else definately.

Thought about a Tuono matey...same engine and characteristics but upright & apparently a hoot around town and out on the open roads

As he said Tuono I had one after my Ducati Multistrada loved it to bits and does all YOU want, but I like my RSV R better, said with a big Smile.:inlove

I'd agree with the above. I bought the RSV as my first proper sports bike. Have to admit for town use I'm SO happy to get back on my commuter jap crap. The RSV is a beast. I likened my first test ride to when I tried proper MX for the first time. Slightly bonkers.

RSV will make you into a devil whether you like it or not!

Thanks

Guys, Thanks for the honest answers! I will do anything in a car, I build cars on the side and had great fun with two Superformance GT40's I built for some friends. 550 hp and 2000 pounds, used to race Formula Ford, skydive, hang glide, etc. One would think I would be a perfect match for a maniac sport bike, but the other maniacs in cars keep me very sedate, have lost a couple of friends. Although I love the looks of the RSV, it looks like I should keep looking!

Thanks again

I've just bought one and i can tell you that you'll love it, funny riding position though, very much more on it than in it.
