awright amigos looking for some general advice. Bought my 06 t last april it had a service then, i have done bout 2500 miles this year parked up in Nov, It has done just over 7000 miles now, Is it worth keeping the book stamped??? should i go to garage i bought it from?? decent but bit expensive.... Or 20 mile ride to Dundee for Aprilia dealer quote is.. 6k service is £168 plus vat 12k service is £360 plus vat.
£45 plus vat for changing to map 2 (£30 plus vat if done at full service)
£19.50 plus vat to replace and balance rear tyre supplied.
I think thats quite dear, especially for changing tyre which i will supply, plus map 2 change seems expensive wot do use think??? Or should i just service my self?? dont mind doing oil, air filter, plugs brakes etc but thats bout as far as my spannering skills go...:dunno:dunno:dunno

service charges are about average, the change to map 2 is expensive, abd the replace rear tyre and balance if to the bike is quite reasonable too

Mr dr, it cost me £360 fir ma 6k service from skinners and since then I keep getting a service light on fir a cam sensor error. Plus I had to take the bike there in ma van cause they need it cold to do the valve clearance thingy. Yer 6k also has the throttle bodies balanced, not really something you'd want to tackle on yer own me thinks.
It cost me the same fir the map2 change.
Yer pays yer money and takes yer chance. As for the stamp in yer book that's up to you mucker.

One other point is that an aprilia dude should have the knowledge, tools and info fir yer bike.

Good luck wae yer choice mucker.

we charge 305 including for a full service (and i mean full) and 205 for the interim service (done properly)

tyre charge is offensive and and map 2 charge is reasonable as long as its done properly....the Co levels need to be balanced after any map or exhaust change to make it spot on!!

as the lads say here save yourself a few quid and change the plugs oil and filter yourself its not hard i promise , the more you get involved with an aprilia the more you get out of it i promise!!

if you ever need any help, advice give me a call at the shop its free!! the ribbing that you get here is quality too!!! hehe!!

hope this helps?
Griff

cheers amigos... Thanks Griff will do.. whats all included in the 6k service??

Rocket Centre did not charge me for changing to map 2 (map check is part of the service - well it was for me !)

agreed mate map updates should be part of the service !!
woohoo!!

graham and ste at the rocket centre are good lads!!

everything is done except the valve clearences and swing arm bearings!

we dont really follow the service schedule that strictly as in certin circumstances its inappropriate, an example is that the bike is 2 years old and done 1500 miles, brake fluids will be changed but its not required in the schedule.
The train of though is that im sure most folk would prefer items to be checked and dealt with even if it doesnt need it!! that way hopefully any issues can be caught before they become a problem!

i recommend that every bike has a full service once a year , despite the mileage and despite the useage (Unless it virtually nothing). Prevention is better than cure!!

hope this helps?
Griff

Cost me £50 for a change onto map 2 last year - didnt take long but the kit cost the dealer a fair bit (he had a whinge about it at the time), so guessing he was just making some money back !

Fit like Davy min... prices seem pretty much similar up here in the Silver City fur the servicin. Used a certain well established toon centrae dealer beginnin wi S. Have nivir foond them cheap an wi risk o upsettin thim if they ever swatch oan here, ah wiz doubtful full 6 service wiz ever actually 100% done. Sprayin things wi service spray and a wee dab o copperslip isnae the full deal tae me. The boys wiz far too vague aboot what was needed and whit grade oil they used etc but as ah couldne prove it ah buttoned ma lip.

I use a local mechanic who used to work for M&S, which sell Aprilia's. He knows his stuff and is reasonable with his charges.
I'm all for a yearly service whatever the mileage.

Cheers again boys.. have e mailed Skinners in Dundee to see exactly what he will do, will keep yawl posted..
Nae bad Rico fit like yersel??? maybees have a wee ride up your wey in the spring if ya fancy a meet??

Dude, so 305 is the full service shebang including valve clearances and swing arm bearings etc?

Here's what gets done for 6k service emailed from dealer, 6k Service: oil and filter change, brakes stripped, cleaned, inspected reverse bled, greased and rebuilt, chain cleaned, checked, lubed and adjusted, wheel alignment checked and adjusted, lights and levels checked, locks and linkages lubed, wheels, steering head and suspension bearings checked, road tested and levels rechecked.
doesnt sound like much i couldnt do my self.....i thought it would be throttle bodies?? lot more technical....ALDO no mention from skinner bout throttle bodies or valve clearence?????

They told me valve clearance and t/b and that they had to do it to a cold engine.:dunno

Ahm plannin tae go tae the Ingilston show in March, couple o the other TZone loons will be there ana so will be meetin up fur a blether.

Keen tae get yer impression o Skinners cos if its good they will get mine fur its 12k (albeit a bitty late!) service as weel.

cheers rico, aye maybees a meet at braemar?? No going to show canny be hooped this year, plus got somethin on that weekend, as for skinners i think he is sound, but looking at what gets done for 6k think i will just do it masel to be honest...Nae payeein someone to clean ma chain!!! thats taking the piss!!!

Hey Davy. Did u ever go to skinners? What like?
My 6k is approaching and it's a lot if hassle for me to van it down to there n back to Skye.
I could do most of the work myself, but its reassuring for someone else with aprilia experience to check the bike over.

na just did it myself.. nae bother. the two plugs are a bit of a pain especially the front one, you need to take out the airbox..
