Service warning indicator on dash

About 10 miles after my service had been done the "Service" warning came up on the dash. Obviously I don't need a service but does anybody know if there is any way to get rid of it without having to go back to the dealer?

Have you got the service manual?

I know on my 02 model the manual gives you the instructions on doing stuff like that!

hold in in the lap/flash button and turn on the ignition and continue holding it till the service display resets. Usually about 15 -20 secs. sometimes takes a couple of goes.

Aprilia Did the service so they should reset it :rant

Im really pissed off with the seat saga already and now they havent even reset the service light :rant

:banghead:banghead

ps Im off for a glass of red to calm down

LOL. Thanks for the sympathy, you sound more pissed off than I am! It is irritating but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel so I'm not too worried just yet. I actually find it quite satisfying finally getting them to do stuff. Oh well, fingers crossed once again.

Cheers once again. :thumbup Just out of interest is that in the manual as I couldn't find it anywhere? Having said that the manual totally does my head in if I have to read it for more than 5 minutes as I've genuinely never seen a more random and poorly laid out manual ever!

Had the same problem trying to find info on how to adjust the throttle play. In the end I found it on one of the archived posts here ironically and it had been taken from the pre 04 model manual and even had a page number for the manual but I couldn't find a single word on it in the later post 04 manual.

Maybe it's me but I'm sure I read every bloody page but I couldn't find a thing on either but who needs a manual when you have a Spoonz! Thanks again. :thumbup

Re the throttle play - ignore the manual

adjust the throttle for as little play as poss without increasing revs when turning the bars - ideally none.

You will automatically close the throttle to the stops when braking etc and you will have a dead spot if you have play when you get back on the gas especially round town. Try it you will reap the benefits.
It's a classic case of Aprilia covering their backside much like the run in criteria.
They don't want to say adjust it for zero play and the first corner you turn the revs soar and you hit a wall.

Look closely at the angle of your wrist on the throttle as well. Aprilia tend to have the whole mechanism angled back too far with the lever horizontal. you want a natural line to your arm/wrist/hand on the bars when riding.

I had to rotate my throttle quite a way forward otherwise at full throttle i had to be a contorstionist.

I do agree the throttle positioning isn't right, it's actually profoundly painful on my wrist and I often get pretty bad pins and needles in my throttle hand when maintaing constant revs so it's definitely a job I must get round to asap.

As for the throttle play I'd already adjusted it perfectly to absolutely no play and it WAS spot on, however when I got it back from the dealer after it's first service it definitely had alot more play in it again so I shall probably do it again tomorrow morning as it's fortunately very quick and easy once you know how.

I must bloody do mine, has more slack than a local bird!
Does make me look a **** stuttering my way round a junction! :jack

Mine increases the revs when the bars are to the left makes me look a right tool when pulling away

Can anyone do an idiots guide please.

I'm a complete ***** and I just did a archive search on this very forum and a fantastic ***** proof description of what to do popped up with pictures and everything and I did it wothout any problems as it really is sooo simple, much like me. If I can do it ANYBODY can, trust me on this one.

Hello again.

Unfortunately the above didn't work. With the engine off hold the flash/lap button on the left bar in and THEN turn on the ignition and keep holding it in right? If so I did this 5 times for a minimum of 20 seconds and up to a minute but no joy, but I decided to stop doing it as I didn't want to see the battery off by essentially having the main beam on.

Haven't tried the above with the engine on as it's a bit early and I think the neighbours will lynch me, but will it make a difference if I hold it in and then start the bike and then hold it for 20 seconds+? As mentioned before I've looked through the manual and not a thing! :jack

Oh dear, not sure what's going on. Kept trying your method of resetting the Service warning Spoonz but now the "EFI" indicator has come up on the digital display with a "0" under the odo and a red triangle with an exclamation mark has flashed up on the tacho. The engine still starts with all the ikons on and runs no problem. Also when you turn the engine off it all cancels and doesn't reappear unless I hold the lap/flash button in and turn the ignitioin on obviously when I'm trying to cancel the service warning. It looks to me like it's entering some sort of diagnostic mode but yet again no clear mention in the manual!

Don't panic, Don't panic

It's my fault i told you the process for putting the display into diag mode :jack on post 04 bikes.

You should be holding the + and - buttons in whilst turning on the ignition and waiting, and waiting.

Sorry - brain fade

Don't worry, no harm done it would seem. As long as I haven't primed it for self destruct I'm not too worried! I'll try the new and improved method tomorrow morning so fingers crossed. Thanks again.

Success! Worked like a dream, no more annoying service warning. Cheers.
