As a Large UK forum have we a discount on service items from varoius dealers?

ie filters plugs etc?

If not why not lol

I have just asked the question of an Aprilia parts supplier so will get back to you. We do some work together so if anyone will they will i think.

This is not an official approach from the forum just me testing the water but if it comes back positive then the forum admins etc can discuss it. I think 5% would be likely as a discount.

Does that seem of interest to the forum peeps in general :dunno

In the current climate especially I would be surprised if you'd get more as well. Hats off to you Spoonz for making the approach on our behalf. I'd be fully supportive of it :thumbup

Remember gents, "they" actually don't need to convince us to use them at all. It would be different if "we" were all collectively bound to purchase from "them", but "we" aren't, and Spoonz can't give "them" a guaranteed figure regarding size, amounts, or regularity of purchases.

Whatever you can get Spoonz sir, would be a very welcome bonus in my book :thumbup

Spoonz, they'll have far more of a mark up on parts.

I would initially aim for 25% and be prepared to settle for 10%.

Normally mark up on parts ranges from 10% right up to 80%, all depends on the type of part. e.g. Service items such as filters, plugs, etc... will have moderate mark ups but ECU's, instrument pods etc.... will be huge.

Reason is you have a captive market as not many companies copy these items.

I :inlove discounts. :doug

They need to convince us to use them not the other way round lol.

Keep up the good work Spoonz

We shall see but Club aprilia have never managed more than 5% from any aprilia dealer even being the official Aprilia organisation so more is possibly ambitious.

I would be very suprised to get more.

In the current financial climate everywhere...to get 5% discount on a normally retail item would be a good grab...no mongrel is giving anything away! Respects to ya spoonz for having a go at it mate!

I personally think you are all missing a trick here, companies are in dire need of cash flow at present and will discount items heavily to stimulate the finance departments P and L sheets.

They are reducing costs on goods to bring in the customers and get people spending the money again, for gods sake even the government are crapping themselves because the public are hoarding their money and the economy is in decline.

If Aprilia or any supplier fails to reduce costs on goods they retail then you will certainly see them go to the wall in 2009 or maybe even sooner.

Spoonz, play hard ball with them and if they say no now then I guarantee in six months time they'll either be back negotiating or be talking to the receivers.

I know it's an old cliché but 'Customer is King' at the moment, we hold the companies future in our wallets.

We shall see but remeber that 75% of the stuff you order is not stock at most delaers or suppliers.
If aprilia don't reduce their price to them then it's difficult to pass on the discount.

as an example I'm trying to buy an 08 factory at the moment and people with them in stock are qouting around £8k but those who don't have one in stock qoute £10K.

They want cash flow by releasing their stock, rather than buying in if poss. Most have lost their line of credit so buying in just means releasing more cash short term.
I'm a small business so i speak from experience.

Well the reply was positive but we haven't talked figures yet.

I shall speak to the mods about it but they did pretty much confirm what i said above so don't expect 25% from them at least.

If you can get more from other dealers then you can pick and chose but i know them well and things are tight.

In the words of my local dealer when i asked about new bike prices he said " yes there are some silly prices around as people try and raise some cash to keep the banks happy, but it usually is a sign they are in big trouble and mey not be around much longer" " any dealer with a sound financial footing will not be cutting his own throat to sell you a bike."

On a seperate note looks like i might have managed to get MPL into Rsvr.net all being well so we will have a uk seller.

Just read my previous posts and they come across as pretty ungrateful, I'm sorry if they read that way with you guys, cause I'm not an ungrateful person.

Spoonz, you're a star for doing this for us all.

I kind of have an insight in to the parts world in the motor trade doing my job, it really sticks in my throat when I see prices being hiked up just because you can't get them elsewhere.

For instance only the other day I was looking at the purchase cost of an oil filter, it was £0.05p yes 5p, yet to buy this retail in the UK you would have to hand over £8.00.

Yes I understand that transportation cost etc... need adding to that purchase cost but come on, these items are shipped around in quantities of 100 plus, so the transport costs can't be that great.

PS. Spoonz, can we not get a discount section set up on the main page with direct links to those offering the discounts web sites, email addresses etc....?

Possibly get links etc Amb but it's up to the powers that be from here on in as to what happens next.

Regards discounts i hear what your saying but from experience i thought it better to establish a relantionship with someone and then if they see the benefit maybe it will get ramped up a bit.

I think had i gone straight in at a big percentage then maybe they would have just said no point blank. I found this with sponsorship a few years back.

Ask for big bucks and it's "go away" ask for £100 and you often get it and next year 10 x more. softly softly catchy monkey. :devious
I have left it to them to set the discount level should it happen rather than ask for aomething specific.

Put the idea out to tender SpoonZ

Email all the big Aprilia dealers and ask what would be their best discount offered to us would be.

If i was an Aprilia Dealer I would read the email at least twice if I knew that i had 100 plus members possibly buying service items.

ps We all know your doing the best u can Spoonz

Its a hard job trying to get discounts for a forum. in theses times its even harder. to be honest I would be happy with any money off service items.

What about bulk buying? maybe if enough people wanted the items then the forum could buy bulk for a discounted rate. seen that happen alot :)

I wouldn't be surprised if no discount was offered. atleast VAT come down soon so that should help.

Spoonz, never meet you, buy seem a top bloke. shame your not local as my bike would be at your all the time lol:

Thanks for the kind words.

regards the discount thing i wasn't really out looking for discount so probably not going further afield in search of other sources at this stage.
It just happened that i was speaking to this one dealer and the thread was fresh in my mind so i asked.

Vat at 15% is a sore point really for some retailers. All their stock they got in at 17.5% vat to the source supplier. Now our glourious leader wants them to sell their gear at 15%. The one thing all retailers want is to release cash by shifting stock and all this has done for stock items should they pass it on is reduce their margins still further.
