Hi all,

Just had some new tryes fitted and been told about scrubbing in but never done it before.

I've been told to take it easy for the first 100 miles and at some point to go for a long ride and do some long winding turns....................anybody got anything to add?

Cheers,

J

50 miles of use in this weather should be fine. As you've been told, take it easy for a bit to run them in. Depends really on your riding style,. Take it easy on the full & big lean angles and avoid full throttle especially if you have it cranked over. In the web extra extra care is needed.

Initially, I always wipe off the releasing agent with some petrol, and then use a black and decker power file to 'scrub' the tyre right up to the edge. job done, full lean angles !

Really?!?!?! I personally wouldn't do that. You need heat too to activate the compounds, and the best way to do that is to ride it.

 Jesus thats a bit extreme.

I usually just take it real easy for the first couple of miles until the center of the tyre is scrubbed in enough for heavy throttle/braking (in case of emergancy).

Then go for a spin on my most regular route, giving it a bit more lean as the ride goes on. Once all the shiny is gone, job done. Took about 25 miles with the set I've got on now.

I know tyre people reccomend 100 miles :roll but to put it into perspective my mate who races laughed his head off when I told him I scrubbed them in within 25 miles. He said "I get the warm up lap to scrub mine in !"

Power file eh, man thats cracked me up :thatsgay

POWER FILE:confused
PETROL:confused:confused:confused

are you trying to recreate a scene out of Mad Max:devious

just take it easy for 50 to 100 miles
no high speeds (keep it in double figures)
don't lean right to the edge of the tyre or build up to it slowly
and no harsh breaking (unless some old granny in her Nissan Micra has just brake tested you then stopping is your priority)

All true but race tyres do scrub in a lot faster than road tyres. About 4 corners. Their made in a different way to work quickly. Road tyres are mass produced and the molds need more releasing agent. Thats what a Dunlop Tech told me anyway. Still take next to nothing these days though.

Power file and petrol :confused

I don't know about good just lucky lol hey Shane that has the makins of a beetle's song ,all you need is heat dee dee dee da da all you need is heat......wellyou know how it goes a cany sing anyhoo....

prior to mounting them i wash them with dishwashing soap and a dishwashing sponge using the abrasive part of the sponge. mount them on my wheels, do about 50 kms with the lowest recommended pressure to get some heat in them and then go and have them balanced. never had any trouble using this method! :)

Never had any trouble not doing it this way. Why balance after a scub in? Do you rebalance every 50k? no, didn't think so!

I have to say some people have very strange ways!

FFS, put tyre on, ride safe until done, end of!

well i run them a little before balancing because they sit in storage for some time and they get slightly deformed (even though you can't see it), that's all! as for the scrubbing in it's just the way i do it, it dosen't necessarily mean that it's better than just riding the bike, it actually may be no better but it gives me some peace of mind when the slippery compound isn't on the tyre anymore! :)

just try not to accelerate or brake to quickly. Job done, you'll feel it if you take the piss before they're ready.

Our Mauds got a power file, you wanna see her do her fuggin feet man. 10 seconds, done.
