Sat Nav - Nice Mount, Crappy GPS

I've had a Garmin Nuvi 270 for about a year now that I bought in the states. Besides the slow start-up and the inaccuracies of city driving, it works pretty well in the car. I figured why not mount this on my bike?

I invest in a very nice mounting system from RAM mounts (www.ram-mount-uk.com). Has a ball mount in the center stem with a connecting rod to another ball mount; this one attached to the GPS cradle. All together a 4 piece set that looks pretty darn nice. I run a power cable to my battery and jimmy-rig it by actually hooking the wires directly on the battery terminals.

Initial test, works! GPS starts up, is solidly mounted, and has power.

Test drive...
After I get my satellites, I'm cruising around glancing at the screen once in a while to see how it's doing. Crap, lost satellites. Little later, back. Few kilos, off again. Oi! it's back! wait...I’m on the ocean?!?! WTF!?

Maybe it's the city driving, let's get outside the city... expressways...same country roads...same. It's a bloody clear day out!!

Maybe it's shot? Put it in my car...works like a gem. Back on the bike...back to ****!

What the heck? Is the vibrations from the bike interrupting the signal? Do I have to buy a new GPS AND a new mount?

I got a navigo for £50 brand new.....put tomtom software on it...made my own bracket ...cost 87p.......WORKS SUPERB :thumbup

what's the aerial like? Where is the aerial? Do you have external aerial in the car or a signal booster? Think you can get them for bikes too, but maybe it's interference from somewhere? If electrics are a problem on italian bikes maybe something needs shielding?
