What is the official running in advice?

I had a quick look in the owners book and couldn't find it. The only thing i could find is that the rev light was set for 6000rpm from new and should stay like that for the first 1000km.

Run easy for 20 miles then drop the oil and start again. Ensure the engine is up to running temp and just ride it with a bit of restraint (open it up but not for long.). Don`t labour the engine.
Check oil level after every trip

Keep yer speed variable and don't be frightened to go over 6000 for short bursts also try to use uphills as well. Basically use yer bike as you would normally but keep varing the revs and don't do same speed stuff on mways.

keep it under 6k until 1000km (625m) then upto 7.5k for the next 1000km then build it up to full revs over the next 1000km.
vary revs etc. as the others posted, but let it bed in steadily, these bikes have tight tolerances on the cranks.

...get some clean oil in there as soon as possible to flush out any debris that may be suspended.....and hold back a bit on the higher revs until you've done so.

Iff still on standed gearing 6000 RPM will be fine for the first 625,miles as it says in the book and will be farst enuff for you to start with eney way why you get youst to the tourq of the bike as well (standed gearing makes you yous all the gears at vareyd speeds like town werk as well ) theys engins dont start to lousen up untill you have done at least 6000 miles on them , you can feel them getting beter evry 2000 miles , try ragging the bike wen you have got a 1000,miles on it ,they are very lathargick getting up to 10,000 RPM they dont like it ,they are happyer at between 6-7,500 rpm for the first 2000 miles ,then dump the oil at 2000 as well then they just get beter up to 6000 miles as Batfasted has sed theys engins new are as tight as a Scotsmans baloon knot in a force 8 Gale;) Get 10,000 miles on one and they spin up like a two stroke

Its a rebuilt engine not a brand spanker.

New cranks, rods and pistons after one rod decided it had had enough!

I've had 2 new Prilla's a mille "R" in 2002 from Stockport Aprilia and a 09 Tuono Factory from Taz, both bikes had there rev warning light set at 6000 from the dealers, and set at 9.500 at my request after the first service.

just ride it and let it rev freely without loading it up too much
i,e dont rev it too hard and dont ride in too high a gear
