RSVR values

Sooo.... gonna be an unpopular thread, but what's with the values of the RSVR, and why do they swing so wildly?

I'll give a couple of examples:
2000, 19k rsvr, full history, mint £1850.
2002, 21k rsvr, lots of stamps, few problems like naffed back brake / clutch slave £2200

Reason I'm asking is that I'm seeing bikes for about 3k with the same spec, and I'm wondering why the prices vary so much?

This thread is benificial to me. I'm looking for a Mille, ideally a Mille R. An RSVR factory would be even better.

It's got me baffled mate, really has. My bike looks like it's just been taken out the crate, even has a comical MOT advisory of "Could be cleaner, must try harder" it's the £1850 one.

Thing is, that is pretty much mint... soo how are people putting values on well used bikes that are far, farrr in excess of either of the two examples... spesh since those ones are usually non "R" or "Factory" models

There are a lot of "fake" R's out there and that has tainted/distorted prices , there are also some dreadful descriptions of condition and also what peoples idea of value is.

Obviously a newer bike will demand a little more but also with the RSV its a passion thing and to a certain extent a mechanical thing.

The 2000 R was less powerful than a 2002 R but that is the only mechanical difference the rest is just cosmetics.

The Factory only came out on the Gen2 range and so cannot be compared against a Gen1 (a Gen2 mechanically will beat a Gen1 any day) but again its down to personal preference and what the buyer is prepared to pay.

My Gen1 is a 2000 model high mileage 42k but has had the engine changed , is cosmetically (err challenged shall we say) but worth £1200 - £1500.

It is a lottery though.

Haha nah it's my forever bike, I'd never get another in that condition for that price. I do however want one for my old man, since he's a fan of the big twins too.

It's just confusing, I can't work out how someone can value a Rsv at say £2500, but then there are the two examples (me an my mate) who pick em up for buttons.

I know what you mean,i had my 2003 RSV (non Ohlins etc model) up for £2500 which i think is fair for the condition and mileage,14100 miles and pretty much spot on.
Everything done that needs doing to these and well serviced and not sold but i wont sell it for peanuts even though i need the cash at the moment because i would no doubt want another in a few months if i get finances in order and have to start again with battery, starter solenoid, connectors etc etc.
Dealers are after £3k plus and nowhere near mine in condition and upgrades done, and rough ones of same year going for around £2k,personally i would always pay a bit more for a decent bike as the amount you spend on these soon adds up.
There have been some very cheap bikes going just lately,

I'll be in the market for one shortly, wonder how much I can coax out of a pristine RS250 ^_^.

Haha GIT, that's about the only bike that I want these days. Got the RSV and the TLR, they do me fine.. but a good smoker for the twisties would be ace.

On a serious note, my mate managed to get about 3k for one and it wasn't all that great with stuck bolts on the fairing etc.

Interesting thread also looking for an R version 2002 onwards. How do you tell a real r from a copy?

Real R :thumbup & a smoker for the twisties behind it.

Got to have OZ wheels
Ohlins shock, forks & steering damper.
Later versions radial brembo's
Carbon fibre hugger, fairing infills, wind deflectors, front mudguard

Well as it happens I am in the market for an RSV, I've said it before but I'm happy to re-emphasise it ;D.

As above but with a few things to watch out for:

The early models have real Oz with Oz stamped somewhere in the centre, the later ones have the same wheels but not stamped Oz (still the correct wheels for the R model though)

The subframe is a dead giveaway too, the correct R subframe is a monoposto affair with nothing but thin air and plastic behind the rider and no lugs for rear pegs.

You'll also find there is haga reps, and edwards reps that are correct R versions but with a full akro system fitted as standard

sorry got the wrong end of the stick thought you were selling ha ha

The bike spends plenty of time on the drive having preventative maintenance done. Whenever big jobs like rebuilds need doing, which isn't very often, she goes to a mechanic.
Haven't had any trouble from her in 8 years.
