Hi all, i have had as good a read as I can within the forum, however I'm yet to stumble across someone else having the same problem as myself.

I have a 2006 RSV1000R with 25000 kms. A couple of weeks ago i figured out that the cause of my EFI warning light and failure to start was a blocked fuel filter. After a small but victorious battle, I siphoned all fuel from the tank, removed said tank and removed filter. Hacksawed in half and could see that it was blocked, completely. replaced with a universal filter, placed all components back together and I have had almost 2 weeks of glorious riding.

That is until last night. Within 10 kms of being home the EFI engaged and the engine turned off. Needless to say, after paying for a tow truck home at 10:30pm I was a little pissed off.

A quick check using the diagnostic function revealed error codes 45 and 50 intermittently flashing on my dash. I checked the fuses, the 15 amp fuse was blown, I replaced, blown again. There is a new battery, it is fully charged in case the question is raised. Obviously, since the 15 amp fuse is blown, I cant hear the fuel pump prime.

Fault codes 45, 50 are:

50 = Starter
- short circuit / open
- short circuit with battery +V

45 = Fuel Pump
- short circuit / open
- short circuit with battery +V

Please, any suggestion would be appreciated.

Update---

Drained fuel tank (all 18 litres thanks to a fuel stop 15 minutes before breaking down. Removed fuel pump and disassembled unit to inspect bag and filter. Fuel was clean and the filter was unblocked. Assembled unit.

Checked starter relay (I've already upgraded this to a Yamaha spec relay 12 months ago). Visually it appears fine. Unplugged it from circuit.

Replaced 15 amp fuse, entered the bike into diagnostic mode and fault codes 45 and 50 displayed.

Plugged in the fuel pump, turned on the ignition and the pump primed. Fuse did not pop. First good sign. Turned ignition off.

Plugged in the starter relay, turned the ignition on. Fuse did not pop. Second good sign.

Turned ignition off, entered diagnostics mode, no error codes displayed.

So in conclusion, there must be a short in one of the cables. It's clearly earthing out somewhere.

Although, I open my problem up to the forum for any input. In case someone else has the same experience.

Try the speedo sensor, especially the cable that runs along the swing arm, mine melted next to the manifold and had the same symptoms. It would be ok for around 5 miles then just keep blowing fuses.

I would have to find the fault. Get some fuses, lift the tank if that's where you think the problem lies and wiggle/ move the wires till you find the fault, once it's found and repaired you will have confidence in the bike again,
