hi there mates!

i found these today.
should i panic.
they look like steel clutch plates.

they are kinda (a bit) round on one side and plain on the other
HELP
thanks

jesus m8 that makes the metal i got out of mine look really tame! (i managed to shred a spacer in the clutch and spread lots of really tiny flakes..)

taking the clutch cover off and inspecting the plates is really quite easy and only takes maybe 30 minutes, be careful not to mix up the order of the plates if you are taking them out

honestly they dont look that much like bits of clutch plate to me, a couple look slightly similar but im guessing they got chewed up alot before being spat out so its pretty hard to tell..

go with the simplest things first: rip that clutch open and have a gander at its condition, failing that its probably going to be your gearbox eating itself...

what are the symptoms of the bike? presumably it wasnt running too nicely before finding that lot in the oil

oh and as for panicing... you certainly dont want to run the engine until you have a good understanding of what that lot is, where it came from and most importantly WHY
generally speaking when engines chew themselves up that much a full on seizure isnt far off the horizon (if the problem is ignored anyway..) so please dont take it out for a ride lol

what is most surprising is the fact that there were no symptoms at all :0
i wanted to take the stator out so i had drained the oil and found those at the drain plug :]

wow thats actually gonna make it harder to find the problem i expect, if it was the clutch i expect it would been slipping and behaving really nasty

perhaps one of the other forum members who had issues with sprag clutches and all the starter motor bits might recognize some of it, thankfully i have never had to touch that part of my bike.. pretty much the only virgin bit left on it ;)

he he:)
we'll see what they have to share with me :/

anyway, i'm gonna inspect the clutch tomorrow.

the clutch has been inspected :)
nothing new
everything seems to be fine

not such good news, probably going to be gearbox chunks then? i dont know but i would take the engine to pieces until you find the culprit lol hope your a confident mechanic

**** man, thats not good! Hope you sort it all out. Dont think I wanna tackle and engine strip in my garage!
Wolf how old are you? lol

lol im 23 and just got done putting the bike back together after spending the past 4 days non stop pulling it to bits and servicing everything i can get at (valve clearances were ok yipee)

i have experience of the metal **** coming out of oil since as i believe i mentioned the clutch decided to malfunction and eat one of the metal spacer/washer disc things (what actually happened was a bolt supposed to hold one of the springs started to fail and the spring pushed it out a little bit, just enough it would seem) fortunately there have been no long term ramifications as i caught the problem early, it was a nightmare trying to get the dodgy bolt out but at least i didnt need a whole new clutch basket

have yet to venture inside the gearbox myself, mainly because i think its best done with the engine out of the frame and i dont have the facilities to remove it from the frame where i am atm but its a pretty common source of chunky metal bits

I had a few chunks in my oil change just after fitting my quickshifter it took fookin ages to set the shifter up and i was crunching like a good un but the bike was brand new no worries until i sold it anyhoo lol
