I went to the open day at WheelPower in Raynes park yesterday, to see the new RSV4.
There were a few adverts in MCN and bike press etc... so thought I would pop in, even though I have had a few less than ideal experiences with WheelPower before.

I turned up quite late in the afternoon, there were approximately 7 people in the shop, the RSV4 was outside, and one of the blokes from the shop was wandering around with a beer in his hand.

Sat on the bike, had a poke around and a look at it for approx 5 mins or so.

During this time, no-one from the shop made any attempt to come and speak to me, or show any interest at all in speaking to me about the new bike. :jack

It simply confirms what my own opinion of WheelPower is in relation to their customer service, or complete lack of it. I could have had £15k burning a hole in my back pocket :dunno

In some respects this is a shame as they are less than 1 mile from my house, and if they were any good I would not feel compelled to ride 15 miles or so to Southern Cross for a quality bike shop (albeit no longer official Aprilia dealers). However, I shall continue to espouse the virtues of Southern Cross who are fantastic, and warn everyone I know of avoiding WheelPower like the plague. (I have had my previous Ape worked on them before when they charged me for work which I did not authorise; quote me several different prices for kawaasaki bits - when they were also Kwak dealers; tell me they had items in stock, when they did not and I turned up to collect).

In these lean times, I would imagine that it is companies with professional outlook and good customer service which will survive, whilst those that do not, may go under? I spoke to someone who told me that the previous management had changed, and that they were better, but I'm afraid my experiences do not bear that out.

On the plus side, the RSV4 looks fantastic but is very small (250/400-type proportions).

I whent to Bikers near Southampton on Saturday.

They had the RSV4 & were a very keen bunch. The bike look's small, but felt ok to sit on. Sounded great.

Bradley Smith was there as well.
Sorry your experience wasnt to good.

I see the v4 got a somewhat less than glowing report in MCN.

Don't think i would fit on it

Presumably 'cos Aprilia wouldn't bung them a load of money/sponsorship/advertising/freebies/staff bike etc... to write anything good about it.

If that's what really happens in the biking review world ... :devious

If you got rid of them platform shoes ..........................................

I've had those platforms since my "bowie" phase and im quite attached to them.

Regard MCN test. They are generally :jack

Usually they love something then slate it down the line ie, Rc8 so maybe the V4 will be the other way round.

Even it i ditched my Platforms Kiwi i think a day in the Pyrenees where it's hard to get up any speed for any time and i might want to throw it down a rock face. Assuming i could still feel my hands and feet enough to do so

Re MCN - Dont forget its just a personal opinion. Depends on what they normally ride. Also people dont like change or anything to radical.
The RSV4 did get 5 stars for everything but ride & handeling (which still got 4). And its clearly a track machine with lights.

I trust Alan Cathcart's opinion as I rate him as an honest Jerno and someone who knows his stuff:thumbup. I don't much trust the magazine jernos themselves as they know if they bag a bike to badly that the company will react badly and withdraw their advertising, I know it has happened over hear.
As for Alans write up he did point out a bad point which was that the throttle responce in track mode was far too agressive. He also seemed to fit on the bike ok and I don't think he is Danny Pedrossa sized. Be a great bike for trackdays and a quick fan around the block. If touring is in mind I think an RST Futura would be more suitable, plus they would look great parked side by side in the garage.:doug

Hi,
Picked this up allbeit a bit late!!! I would like to apologise for the above. We take criticism seriously and this should never have happened. Wheelpower have recently taken the decision to go under new management. We are looking at rebranding and improving what in most cases has been excellent customer service. We fail peoples expectations sometimes and can only apologise. Please give us a try as we will endeavour to help as much as possible. We are a small family owned business and as such do not have the financial muscle to stock the RSV4s etc all the time but we are getting there.

Thanks Adrian (Dealer Principal)
