Just got RSV1000R 2003, came with 1 massive exhaust on right side - I have been told that any replacment by Akra or other (which are much smaller in size and obviously lighter) would break due compression of engine..,,any thoughts on this are very welcome as I wish to get this heavy piece of metal off..bike is used only for track.

Hello Matey,
whoever told you that is an idiot!! the only cans that can be prone to damage are the carbon ones as the twin pulse generated can cause them to break down. The Ti and Ali cans will have no issues.

Thx mate, for quick reply - So as long as I stay away from carbon, metal and ti will do? any experience with the double metal cans on 1 side?

yep they're called shotguns, my trackbike has them and they sound awesome :thumbup - the 2 into 2 exhausts will give you more power over the single but there is another option with regards headers - get a modified collector from redratbike on here.

Belgium tracks are limited to 95dB, very stricked..any idea what these shotguns will do? silencers inside?
ps: thats a nce looking track bike you got there...

thanks matey, mine were tested at 98dB at Oulton Park without baffels so probably would be 95 or less with baffels in. don't quote me though :)

cheers

Tell me about it...we're all struggling down here with that.....but no way I keep 8kgs.

My Akra with no baffle was 95dB using my friends sound-meter from 1m away. Probably not quite as accurate as the ones they use at tracks but with a baffle in you should easily be under 95, but still lighter and sounding a bit better! (tone is better, not just loudness!).

Thx for the tip - what kinda Akra you got on there, any pics? - use pm if you wish

Thx guys for the tips...repacking indeed would make alot of difference....I will have a look at Ebay...

Mine had a single akra slip on when I got it, later the shop that fixed it after a crash put on an arrow slip on, but that was just too loud. Last year I put on a full edwards system, which made a hell of a difference. It got a very smooth idle and revs really nice. The mid-range got a big boost, and it just feels like the engine loves it.
I highly recommend a full system.

I have a set of shotgun cans that came with home made db killers that were a recent ebay purchase at £140 which are now surplus to my requirements.
I'm sure these would meet the 95db limit
The down side .... the carbon strap is broken across the back between the pipes
