RSV1000R help

I joined here because i am going to get a 2002 RSV100R, i rode one today and im used to jap bikes so i have a couple of questions.
1. When i got to the 1st roundabout the bike felt as if it was falling over and dropping in, is this normal.
2. There are 5 or 6 rings showing on the front suspension, would this cause the above.
3. About 6" back from the headstock on both sides of the frame in the middle section there is what i can only describe as a slight crease, its in exactly the same place on both sides, is this normal or would it mean its been in an accident.

the bike will be tucking in because the clamp is to far down the forks it normally works best at either 3-4 rings down and also are you using a high profile tyre like a 2CT
And yes there is 2 little creases in the frame

Thanks for that, its got new Avon viper sports, i suppose if the steering damper was to stiff this would have the same effect as well, would that be correct.

if the steering damper was to stiff you would struggle to turn the handle bars and i've never used the avons so can't help you with them

Thanks again, is it easy to raise the forks back up to 3 rings.

could be that your not used to that tyre wayne - depending on what tyre u used in the past can vary - i had pirelli supa dragon corsa tyres on my 57 plate factory and they seemed the opposite to me - couldnt get it over easily - put bridgestones on which i use on my blade and wow riding on rails now- i think tyres can make a rider feel good or bad - depends on personal feel and confidence in my opinoin but if its tip[ping in nicely i wouldnt worry - just raise the forks back through the yokes a few marks

Yeah, get those forks up - I'm showing four and it's just right. In fact if you buy it, take it somewhere and get the suspension set up properly, get the tyre pressure checked, etc. They usually turn in sweet and easy - faster with a 180 rear tyre as opposed to a 190.

"tipping in nicely" i thought it was going to fall over!! the Avon tyre is very round if that makes sense so i assume it would roll easily, im used to BT021 so a vast difference i think.

I spose im not used to it, had a zx12r,(that had avon storms),but not as extreme as the RSVR, i think im used to road tyres so that is probably what the problem is and yes after looking on here i would say the suspension needs setting up properly, i think the forks are as far down the yokes as they can go.

depending on what u want wayne - it almost falling over as you describe can be good if you like a bit of scratching etc i know i do - and yeah if the tyre is very rounded it will naturally roll over easier some can roll over then almost drop like your falling off - cant comment on the avon's tho never used em - bridgestone bt014 man for last 6 yr - cant wait to try the new bt016 tri layer compound -

5 rings showing,shock on maximum recommended length,& 016's,sling it on its ear man,it's what they are made for,steering damper 2 of minimum & Ive never had any stability problems

I've run Avons before and was not impressed with them, just didnt fell right. Been running bt021's for a while as I need the miles and also changes to a 180 on the back which has made a big difference.

As for the frame, I thought about that on my first rsv but then I saw pics on he and could pick the creases up so it seems a standard thing.

Last comment is what colour is the rsv? could be you had a yellow one and it was to fast for you for the corners

i got a viper on the front of mine, and its the worst tyre i have ever used, gonna bin it after the tt and get either 2ct's or corsa's.

It makes the whole front end seem really loose and having to tip toe it into and out of roundabouts, and certainly does not inspire any confidence in the wet.

Best bet is if they are new, get off and replaced asap, and get some proper tyres.

Some muppet on the bay of fleas will buy them off you, just not this muppet :biggrin

hi beanie - had the corsa's - depending on feel id recommend the bt014 or 016 anyday - corsa's seem to disintergrate for fun - and dont like he wet
