Right where to begin.bought an rsv couple of weeks back all was fine until today
bike fired up first time no problems then it stalled and started again no problems then the fun begins stalled again but was trying to start again without my thumb on the button, flicked the kill switch no joy turn the key off no joy it only stopped trying to start itself when i let the clutch out and stalled it. All the clocks were dead checked all fuses they were ok, got the battery out and it was very hot, after letting battery cool down for 20 mins. tried putting key back in all the clocks are ok (but reset) now when i press the start button it makes a whining noise :confused

Just robbed this off another forum v. Similar issue! So hopefully it will help...

Ok my ape is a .005 Mille r and while at Indy I went turn her off so I turned the key off bike was still turning over but not running so I used the kill switch same thing. I then turned the key back on and let her run then Pressed the start button then turned key off and she fully turned off. Well today she did the same thing wouldn't fully turn off until I pressed the start button. Does anyone have a clue what could be wrong. Thank you

08-22-2012, 03:50 PM Either the start button on the handlebar or your starter solenoid is sticking. If the start button is sticking you can clean and lubricate it and that may cure your problem. If your start button is fine it is time for a new starter solenoid. A lot of people like to go with the Yamaha solenoid instead of the OEM. Get your battery load tested too. Low voltage on a dying battery causes more amps to be drawn by the starter. This higher amperage flowing through the starter solenoid starts to spot weld the contacts together and makes them stick

The yamaha starter solenoid is miles better i change mine a few yrs back never had any issues

As above more than likely your solenoid, I have 150 amp ones in stock £35 inc delivery.

Nice one Vince, clean up all the wiring while you're at it to make sure it's all in order with no corroded blocks.

:thumbupGreat advice Philly46. I was out racing the other week and my old girl started missing very badly and it turned out to be the electical connection corroded with the green death:rant. The bike came from the UK and corrosion seems to be bad on them. Problem was fuel pump relay connection, but all the connections got stripped and cleaned and lubricated with electical grease, and now the bike runs perfect:biggrin

just hoping the new battery and solenoid will sort it. Parts wont arrive for a while now over xmas. fingers crossed though

I had the same on my 02 Mille, i have a new battery, stator solenoid and relays....still did it after that :( will look to strip & clean the starter switch/button, cant really see how it can do it , i even had the key out and it was still spinning the motor trying to start:confused:confused

Aye I had the exact same problem. Think it killed my battery in the process hopefully this will sort it only done 40 miles on it :-(

Hi Vince, Glad you got back home ok, it wont be the brown connectors that you will hear about alot on the forums as i cut and resoldered them when Charlie first got the bike, so you can eliminate them. As others have said, it does sound like the starter solenoid that has stuck.

I kept saying to charlie to get a optimate charger for it when he had it, but where he was living at the time had no power to where the bike was, but if you have a garage for her, then deffo get one and keep your battery/ bike hooked up when she's not being used.

Have a great crimbo and catch you around soon.

Andi
