Anyone gone from 03/04 RSV to 07/08 R1?

Mostly weekend motorcyclist with odd 15 mile motorway/city roads commute to work.

Love the RSV but have the option on a cheapish R1 (totally standard bike).

BTW- If you have an 08 RSV(R) for ~£5K happy for a PM.

:confused

Slightly different, but went from an `04 RSV to an `08 Fireblade, and I haven`t regretted it (apart from the sound, LOL, as NO i/l 4 is ever going to sound as good...:biggrin)

I have, however, had LOADS of bikes in the past, mostly i/l 4`s, but twins as well, so I just enjoy both for their strengths.

Up to you really mate, but I`m sure you`ll be satisfied whatever you decide, as we already know the RSVR is a fantastic bike...........but the R1 (which I`ve also had) aint too shabby either.........!! :thumbup

I think that incarnation of the R1 is a bit under rated, put in the shade by the 09 job. Big value there. R1s used to have the reputation for being the most comfortable sportsbike, but not sure if that applies to the 07 vintage............I found it less comfortable than the one before. Later R1s had a shorter stroke than their predecessors, you'll find the low/mid range a bit lacking but more up top.

I think the 08 R1 is an absoloutely beautiful looking bike (my mate has one and she got carbon dripping of it - it looks magnificent but if you hear the 09 with aftermarket cans it sound like a hybrid twin that really has me - if I could afford to even pay attention I'd have one.

Its a good bike mate - you wouldn't be dissapointed.

Deacs :thumbup

Stupidly walked into a Ducati dealership and just fell for a 1198 - have you felt the weight of those things....they are like a 250:eek:

But, then sanity kicked in and for the price of a preowned 1098/1198 I could keep the RSV and buy a R1.???

Thanks for input.

i went from 02 rsv to 03 R1 now got 03 rsv nuff said :biggrin

don`t know about the later ones look cool as f##k rode ace ,but i really missed the v-twin good luck with what ever you pick :dunno

personally i would never go back to an IL4 , no character rev the nuts of em to get any grunt , sewing machine sounds .

ok faster in a straight line but who cares really . when was the last time you topped out your bike you have now ? prob never on the road anyway .

1098 1198 848 or even a ktm 990 smt for somat a bit different ...

just my 2 penny worth etc etc

R1 won the SBK however max couldn't even start the damn Aprilia! I'd tech him one day how to take off with a wheelie! anyway so R1 would be a great drag bike however RSV4 is the new ****! get an RSV4 and give me your keys! other wise getyourself a turbo charged busa if you are into bikes with no soul and just bunch of horsepower that you can't handle at 200MPH with a wheelie. my 2 cents

Did it the other way around; changed from an 06 R1, full system, WP shock, Maxton forks, PC3 etc. to an 06 RSV Factory! very happy! :thumbup

CORRECT i did yeah its an in line four but i meant i would not go back to an in line four for my proper toy ... , kept my rsv for proper sport bike grunt and fun and gonna use the divvy9 for touring bus so dont need top speeds and loads of handling with mrs kawasakiinit and loads of givi on the back :biggrin

mind you mrs kawasakiinit dont mind me being mental when she is on the back of the rsv but its a bit tiring on a run to spain throwing it about all the time ..

the said divvy bus :thumbup

If I had the money I'd go from my 2003 RSV to a modern 4 cylinder thou without a shadow of a doubt.

I had 2 x R6's before and miss chasing the revs, plus the scalpel handling. I like the Ape as I take my girlfriend on the back but I just can't bond with the Aprilia from a pure sports bike perspective.

Always feels 25kg too heavy and those 'quirks' are just annoying sometimes!

I think the bike we're waiting for is a Daytona 900 triple....

+1 on that :thumbup

I've had some time on the 1050 Speed Triple and it just left me cold,I said when I returned it '' Put a lightweight chassis and clipons etc round that engine, call it a 1050 Daytona and I'd consider buying it''

Apart from the fact Triumph are a small factory I can't understand why they aren't doing this, perhaps it's a continuing history of being 2 steps behind Japan with all their big bikes?

The move from 600s Kwak's and R6's to an 04 RSVR has left me smiling.

The prilla is just rock solid in the twistys and the brakes superb. The best thing is off throttle braking.........

Brilliant.

Off throttle braking? Not for me thank you!
I know the road craft lot love all this 'don't touch the brakes stuff' but my first foray on two wheels was as a school boy motocross rider, albeit a **** one.

I was rubbish on an 80, but as I got older felt most comfortable with 250 2 strokes, anyway, I was always taught that you're either accelerating or braking- never coasting.

I was brought up chasing powerbands so I suppose that's why I feel at home on revvy/peaky bikes?

All very subjective...

Well - I have a direct comparising, as I have a 07 RSVR Factory and my girlfriend rides 05 R1, and we switch bikes sometimes.

R1 is just a completely different bike as for the engine - it feels, and it is much faster than RSV, you get speeds 250+ in no-time. Yeah - it lacks torque below 6-7krpm, but actually you rarely keep it lower than 6krpm-it just keeps asking you to be trashed on high revs. It's really smooth on low revs-much easier to ride as a commuter, but on high revs you need to be really careful with opening of the throttle: after I got used to rather wide throttle openings on RSVR, I found myself doing the same on R1 and it was spinning the wheel during lane changing. It delivers power in much more aggressive way.

What you are going to miss? Definitely brakes and suspension of RSV, as it handles just superb, and the V twin sound of course. Also-it's more comfy and gives more wind protection than R1. And yes: the Being-One-Of-The-Few feeling ;), as you're going to see a parked R1 exactly the same as yours, on every corner of the street ;)
Just kidding:) - it really depends on you, what you like more.
