Hello everyone!

Im new to RSV zone and thought this would be the best place to start for advice!

Not been riding long but always had a soft spot for millie's!!

Insurance is cheaper than a gsx-r?? Even fully comp!

Now thats out the way, any model's/years to avoid/look out for?

Don't really know much about the model history, apart from when im BIG i want a R

Hope i've bored you all too much!!

Any info would be great!!

Thanks in advance

Mike

Hi mate, i came from a SV650s to my RSV 9weeks ago. Only been riding 2 n bit years.

looks at few bike b4 getting the rsv (so glad i did, vtwins all the way now)

looked at a gixer 600 (k3)

Insurance for a Gixer 600 full comp was 380, insurance for my RSV was 320 fully comp. (with MCE)

i got a early shape one (last of the early shape tho) registered 2004.

Would have prefered a new shape one tho (black and gold factory) when i got more spare cash i think :)

get 1 soon b4 the summer disapears compleatly

they may not be the fastest top speed bikes out there but they well good fun.

think the engine is the same in factory as the normal one, u just get lots of extras with factory.

£3200 should get u a nice early one.

Hi
I've had R1's, GSXR's Fireblades etc etc and got bored with the inline fours, plus was doing silly speeds all the time on them, they are also getting far far too small for me with a regular pillion..So..I thought I'd try an RSV as I've always liked the look and sound of them.
I said I'd give it 12 months and if I didn't like it was going to buy a GSXR1000, still have the Apilia 2 years later..Have done 13000 miles on it with no problems except for the universal poor rear brake, of which there are various suggestions for the way around the problem.

As to reliability, perfect..More so than my R1 which ate its gearbox at 13000 miles and my ZX9R which blew its head gasket at 18000.

Only fuel consumption is a bugbear if ridden hard.

Welcome to the Forum CT. :thumbup You've asked some very good questions.

As the guys have said there's quite a bit of difference between the JAP-4s and V-twins. Yes the 4's can do some incredible speeds but mostly only in a straight line. They're generally pretty heavy for their size and have to be in the upper rpm ranges to go very fast. The Aprilia, being a V-twin has very high torque in lower rpm ranges and that along with being low weight makes for some SUPER riding possibilities. By the way, just because Aprilias aren't as fast as some of the 4's doesn't mean they're slow. My 2000 RSVR has been "dyno"ed at 173 mph and I've been over 150 mph several times. I also believe that an Aprilia will give you the opportunity to become a "well rounded" rider than a JAP-4.

I don't personally know of any years/models to avoid. Earlier bikes will cost less to initially buy and insure. Later bikes will have newer styling and cost more to buy and insure. IMHO the previous owner is the most important factor in buying a used bike. If you can, find out about the service history of the bike. Ask where it was serviced and talk to the shop. Were the recommended service intervals maintained? Has the bike been down? How hard? Just because a bike has been down isn't always a "deal breaker". Sometimes it was petty cosmetic.

I know it's easy to get excited and rush into things. If you can take your time and keep asking these guys your questions. There is a wealth of knowledge available here!!

its true,i was gunna be happy with a cheap scabby boluk of a bike,i.e 120 bandit ect, after not having a bike for the last 5 years since my r1 got nicked, but i managed to get a 2003 mille with 8000 mile on the clock that had previous cosmetic damage but had all been repaired to as new condition and cost me £2000.its a hell of a lot of bike for 2k.
to be safe,i had the bike fully checked out by a proffesional before i bought it,fully stripped down and all aspects checked to ensure my safety.

i love the bike to bits and was so lucky to drop on such a bargain of a great bike.

if your loaded tho, your better off with an as new classic shape mille R or newer shape factory.i prefer the cassic R if it was my money.

both bikes seem to suffer similar niggles so theres not much in it there.
newer bike has a bit more bhp and top speed, classic bike has a bit more stomp/torque and delivers its power a bit more agressiveley.

theres loadsa mods and accesories out for each bike, and theyre both fantastic to ride/own.

Thanks so much for such a warm welcome and a mountain of advice!

I really am so very greatful!

some interesting points, if what a little biased aat times.
we dont ride Aprilias because they'r the fastest (GSXR)
we dont ride them cos they're the most reliable (FIrePlace)
we ride them because they are intoxicating, they will drive you crazy like an annoying girlfriend or wife, that you can't help but love all the same...
They can be quirky, expensive (i should know, i think we'l all agree therre) but they are very rewarding.
You'll see very few other riders on one, you'll be different, which is part of what biking is about.
you'll love the experience once you master a V twin
you'll hate her getting wet if you commute on her ( as i do)
you clean her and care for her and treasure her, because she's an Italian Beauty

Considering how much great advice is already in this thread I don't know what I'm adding.

I am in the unique situation where I just recently (in the past week) switched from a jap-bike (an R6) to a 2007 RSV.

My one regret is that I didn't do it earlier. The RSV, for me, is easier to ride? Why? It's hard to say, there's nearly too many reasons why. First off the RSV feels smoother off the start line when you're giving it a lot of gas. Even though it's smoother it actually seems a lot faster from the start as well. I nearly had the bike pull out from under me a few days ago when decided to see just how fast I could go from a dead stop in 50 feet.

It definitely feels lighter as well. With the R6 I always needed to throw a little bit of body weight into the turns to get the thing to lean deeply, with the RSV it's a much more natural feeling when you counter steer and lean into a steep turn. With new tires it's actually something I've had to watch out for as I am not too keen on low siding on a brand new bike :devious

There's aslo a notable prestieg factor with having an Aprilia. I don't know how many of you know about Alice's (just do a google search for motocycles and alice's if you've never heard of it) but when I rolled up on this RSV I began to steadily steal the thunder from every other bike in the lot.

Anyway, yeah, there you go... There's more to say but my ADD is kicking in and.... Oh, sparklie!

not forgetting you are jumping up from a 600 to litre bike
when i went from 3 r6's to my r1 it felt amazingly quicker too

not contradicting just stating the obvious
