Rsv Mille sound vs Vtr1000?

Hey guys,

Nice to meet you. It's my first time on the forums since i recently started looking for a rsv mille and i fell in love with the bike and want to visit some bike shops very soon.

Since i am in love with the 2 cilinder sound, especially the VTR1000 sound, i was wondering what the RSV Mille sounded like compared to the Vtr 1000!

Anyone got experience with both bikes as in sound?

Thanks!

Matsuke

Both are quite distinctive. The Mille being more so. I ride with a guy who owns a VTR SP2 and there is a lot of whine comes from the bike because of the gear driven cams. The tone from the exhausts is fairly deep even with standard cans but not too obtrusive. All that said, its fairly bland sounding like most other v-twins of its ilk like the TL1000 for example.

The Mille on the other hand has a unique sound all of its own. I have a motorway behind my house and I can tell straight away when a Mille goes by even with a standard exhausts. In the same way as a Ducati has a unique sound, the Mille is instantly recognisable. Couple that up with non standard cans and a race airkit like an Evoluzione or Renegade and you have in my opinion, one of the best sounding bikes on the road, if not one of the most distinctive sounding ones. I have twin high mount Renegades and an Evo airkit on mine and the sound is seriously addictive. Have a look on Youtube at some videos for some examples. Like most V-Twins Mille's are inherently noisy engines at tickover but sound sweet when being hustled along the road.

Thanks for the reply Econesse! So would you say the VTR 1000 has a louder/darker sound to it, but the RSV 1000 has more character to the sound?

I used to have a VTR1000 with art cans awesome sound lot easier on the wrists not as much go as a mille but its only got a 100bhp at most. I had one for 3 years and it was well sorted in respect of handling and performance pulled 150 mph not bad for a 13 year old bike with 43000 miles.

Hey Geoff,

The VTR1000 was easier on the wrists? As in comfortable or speed? Since i am 6"5 i am wondering about this.

Personally I think the VTR has a nicer sound than the Mille. It's a lot deeper.
The gen2 sounds almost as good I think it's to do with the 2 into 1 system v's 2 into 2.
VTR definitely more comfortable then either gen1 or gen2 RSV.
I owned and commuted on the VTR and Gen 1 Rsv for about 1 year each.

There is a fair bit of difference sound wise.

The Aprilia is a v60 deg which has quite a unique sound....the VTR on the other hand is a v90 deg, same as a Ducati, both of which give a bassier and better (imho) exhaust note.

Hm.. I just noticed there two different sections for RSV and RSVR, RSVR is the one i am talking about, 2004-2009 !

Sorry guys. But i guess Claude's answer kinda satisfies what i was after.

Thanks again.

I'd disagree on the comfort thing. I have no idea if the seat/bar position and bike geometry is different between the vanilla VTR and the SP1/2 versions but I have ridden my buddy's SP2 and it was uncomfortable compared to my Gen1. Lots of weight on the wrists and the turning circle was a bit poor, the tank felt massive and almost trapped your thumbs between it and the bars on full lock. I couldn't get on with the riding position at all, although your mileage may vary.

Comfort wise on the Mille I've toured Scotland with fully packed sports throwovers, tank bag and the wife on pillion and it was very comfortable with no issues to report in that department. Horses for courses though I suppose!!.

I had a 2000 vtr with megacycle cans, yes I'd say it sounds better than my newly acquired mille but the extra 30odd HP and 20kg light more than makes up for it! As well as the sweet cornering characteristics of the mille compared to the 'storm...

Had a vtr1000 with Remus titanium a and scorpion high levels, both sounded amazing but the mille being a 60 degree v twing seems to sound more frantic where as the storm was more rumbly if that makes sense

I have the aprillia racing can on mine and I've got to say its sounds as nice just different

The Millie's just more of a beast , the vtr is like a cbr 600 ,
Throw a KTM superduke into the mix and that's a hand grenade , more "raw" ,edgy
