RSV Mille 2002 Fuel consumption increase due to exhaust pipe?

Hi,
Totally noob question:
I recently purchased an RSV Mille 2002 with 27.5k on the clock - lovely lovely lovely bike. However, fuel consumption is a slight concern - yes I know I shouldn't care about it at all (etc etc), however it seems excessive even for this bike.

The dealer put the stock pipe back on it for roadworthy - it came with a very loud Leo Vince SBK pipe (oh yeah!). I didn't ride it for very long with the stock pipe, but it was getting 8 l/100k (29.4 mpg US / 35.3 mpg UK) which is a lot for a bike but fine with me: A range of about 150klm before the reserve light came on.

I put the Leo Vince pipe back on and the bike is now getting about 10 l/100k (23.5 mpg US / 28.2 mpg UK) - a range of about 125klm (77 miles) before the reserve light comes on.

So my question is - can the exhaust pipe make that much difference? Or is there something else I need to consider? Is 10 l/100klm reasonable for this model (it's been pretty consistent whether commuting or riding on country roads)? I have done some searching and it does seem more than most people report.

cheers!

Depends what mods have or may have been done.
Chip?
Open air box?
and gearing amongst others.

If I ride hard i get about 90 miles/tank

OK, I will investigate, thanks :) :thumbup

90ish miles to a tank here too , mixed riding
Does get over a ton with super unleaded tho

Mike

Putting in 98RON fuel over 95 seems to have made a big difference in consumption - got about 7.5l/100k on the highway and about 9l/100k around town.

I'm going to see about getting that done at next service if it can be :)
